Stadium conflict results in man hauled to Detox

A dispute over whether or not it is acceptable to stand up during the football game resulted in University Police arresting a man for third-degree assault on Saturday.

Carl Oestmann, director of patrol operations for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Police Department, said Alan Sharp, a 28-year-old man from Omaha, allegedly punched someone who was sitting behind him after the person told Sharp to sit down.

Sharp was ejected and taken to Detox where he registered a .257 BAC. In all, UNL police ejected or denied admission to 56 people at the game on Saturday, mostly for drunken behavior, Oestmann said. He added that at least 15 were UNL students.

GOOD!!!!!!!!! The guy deserved to get punched in the damn mouth! If he wants to sit down on his a$$ then watch the damn game at home.

Well when this is all over I am sure he will learn to set his a$$ down. If the blue Hair, supposedly did ask him to set down and the guy hit him, he was arrested, he will have a nice civil suit to deal with.

Who knows what lead up to the situation.

But no one deserves to be intimidated by a drunk a$$. Endorsing it is almost as bad. Thinking you have the right to obstruct another person from watching the game because you want to is wrong to.

I have been to many games at Memorial Stadium and I have never heard the down in front chant. Watching the game Saturday on TV I noticed several blue hairs standing side by side with the youth in the stands.

The seats are there for a reason, one safety and the other to make it so all can see the game.

I like to stand and do so if all around me are, but I do not intentionaly block some one from seeing the game. Consideration of others, respect for others should be the guideline.

This is why we are ok with just about as much violence as the mind can handle, but censor out even the slightest bit of foul language. Gots to protect those kids! I'm sure the guy that punched the other guy at least didn't swear when he did, thanks be to God and the censors!

What a disgrace. I can't believe people are going after these old people who have been enjoying the games for so long. When you get older, I want to see you stand up the whole game or be able to jump up at a given moment when something big happens and the person in front of you leaps to his feet. I'm talking to you huskers1! The old guy probably isn't lazy. It's his right to go to the game, he paid for his ticket. If he has trouble getting to his feet then the other dude should accomodate that. You can all sit and watch the game but not everyone can stand through the whole thing. Keep that in mind. Don't know how old this guy was but you don't know his past medical history.

I'm sure someone will go after "well how did he make it into the stadium and up the steps"...theirs a difference between walking at your own pace up the stairs and suddenly having to jump to your feet to see something.

"0.25 BAC: All mental, physical and sensory functions are severely impaired. Increased risk of asphyxiation from choking on vomit and of seriously injuring yourself by falls or other accidents"

How did he even throw a punch, yet alone, a punch that would have done any damage?
Because the body's reaction to high BAC's varies from individual to individual. That level may cause some people to be essentially useless until they just pass out while others will still be able to walk around and function to some extent.

i dont condone the hitting, but you can bet your a$$ that i would have had some choice words for the guy telling me to sit down.

you have a T.V. at home if you want to sit down and watch, so use it.

tell me thats not fair to older people if you want, but its also not fair to younger people to have to sit down and be bored at the game.

FOOTBALL=EXCITEMENT=STANDING THE f#*k UP!

It goes both ways...people keep saying we should accomodate the people who can't stand so the people in front of them should sit down. How about the guy who also paid for his ticket that wants to stand and actually cheer on the skers? He has just as much right to stand as they guy behind him has to sit except only one of those is actually doing something to making memorial stadium somewhat hostile. I'm sorry to sound like a jerk but it just gets under my skin that during the biggest game of the year people still got told to sit down! It's not like its just certain fans that are saying the stadium seems dull, its the freakin head coach!! If this guy is telling people to sit down when it's NU vs OU and it's a TD game the whole game, what the hell are other people like when we play TT and its 17-7 or when we play Florida Atlantic and we jumpu out to a 21-0 lead, or when we play KSU in two weeks and its 10-3? I'd be surprised if opposing teams were afraid to play here at all. Like I said if you just want to sit on your a$$, tell other people in front of you to sit down and cheer from a sitting position like youre applauding the damn opera, stay at home!! Do I actually think the guy should have got hit? No, I don't but everything else I have said I truly mean.
