dvdcrr and Split Topic

We received the following email from dvdcrr:

Dear Moderarors

On the football forum, someone used my post from a previous thread and started a new thread in my name. It says "started by dvdcrr" but this is a lie. I did not start that thread, it had to be a mod or somebody. I dont know why this was done. I dont believe people should be attributing threads to me that I didnt start. I stand by my content but someone is playing games with my user ID and I dont agree with it. Secondly, the user Count bility is dogging me on every thread. I want that thread deleted at your earliest convenience and count bility to be warned for his conduct. I am a member of the Attorney General consumer protection constituency, and if this conduct continues I will be calling them and following up with a written letter outlining these practices. Online bullying and hacking may be illegal.

Regards

David Carr
Anyone have any background on this?

Someone - I would guess Eric - must have spit it out for it's own thread. I actually think it's a pretty good topic and thought it would generate good discussion. The problem came when no one else posted for 30-40 minutes he started posting junk and asking why no one was listening. That's when others got somewhat annoyed.

I think a simple explanation of why we do that from time to time should work.

Here's a response by a Moderator at another forum for a thread started by our friend Mr. Carr (dvdcrr). You can find the whole thread here, but the salient part is the Mod's reply:

All right, after deleting a half-dozen or more posts that contained a lot of childish nonsense and some offensive language on the part of more than one individual -- all of which took place after Uncut's posts; none of which involved Uncut, Olstyn, or Sc0tt -- please note the following:

1. If you want to comment on a post in this section, be it an item for sale or trade or something else, do it via PM only. As a rule, we do not offer opinions on the offerings of other members unless invited.

2. If you want to engage in language that you wouldn't use in front of your mother, find some other internet site to hang out. This is not the place, and it is not going to be the place tomorrow, either.

3. If you want to continue as a member of this forum, stick to rules of engagement, and conduct yourselves as adults.

Cross the line again that was just crossed here and you'll find yourself gone for good. Questions? Send me a PM.

In the meantime, this one is closed.

Four people posted in that thread - our boy dvdcrr, Uncut, Olstyn, and Sc0tt. If the problem wasn't Uncut, Olstyn, or Sc0tt, guess who caused the problem.

And that seems like exactly what he's done here. And his emailed response to us seems on par with what this Mod was shutting down.

That was a thread from 2010. It's 2015. Mr. Carr does not seem to have improved his online comportment much since then.

Yeah, kinda figured he was "that guy" based on his email and allegation of bullying. I PMed him (he had sent me a PM) and explained why it was done, and that it could happen again. If he comes back with complaints of bullying, I'll refer him to the Ignore function. If he doesn't like that, I'll kill the account.

Here's his response. Actually kind of reasonable. I don't follow or understand his line of thought, but at least he's reassessing whether this community is the right one for him.

I dont agree with this. If someone wants to copy my post and start a new thread in their own name saying " hey guys what do you think about this", I am OK with that. As a user I feel that I should reserve the right to start threads with my thoughts or not to. Not every post that I type is meant by me to start a new conversation. If I want to start a new conversatiin I will. I respect your responsibility as admin. But when I check in and see new threads that supposedly I started it doesnt seem right. I am a member of multiple boards, mostly firearm related, and I have a pretty goid sense that this would never happen on those. It seems wierd to me. I am a husker fan, but huskerboard might not be the place for me. I do appreciate your getting back

When I split a topic like that, I usually go find one of my posts from earlier in the day than the new OP and tack that on as the OP, then edit my post to explain what's going on. It's an extra step but it alleviates confusion.

Agree, I think this is necessary.

He was getting kind of weird there, but clearly, just really confused.
