Everyone has gotta relax about the WF performance, here's why: Reply

First of all, we have to take the performance with a grain of salt. I have a cousin and sister (current students at UNL) that are both dating players on the team, and talking with them last night, here are some points. It is interesting to hear things straight from the players.

First - the players WERE looking ahead to USC. Plain and simple. They have been looking to that game since before Nevada. They have been looking at film for weeks. Yes, this almost bit us in the a$$. But they also are seeing the positive in that they played horribly, self-admittedly, but STILL won, on the road, against a BCS conference champion.

Second - the players largely went thru the motions, and were self-admittedly lethargic and played with low energy. They just wanted to get the trip over with and get home. This was because of several reasons, but the first being a flight delay and getting in somewhat late Friday. The energy level was strangely low during the walk-thru, and made the outcome on Saturday predictable.

Third - the players HATE the 11am start times. They are fully aware of the TV/money reasons for this, but this still doesn't take away from the basic fact. They have to get up at 7am or earlier, they aren't sleeping in their beds, they don't eat as they normally would. Couple the 11am start with it also being on the road, and this adds up to a "lack of fire" some have pointed out here. They did what they had to do to win. Yes, they underestimated Wake.

There were other small things, but this pretty much adds up to it not being a great day for either side of the ball. I for one am glad we got out with a win. Yes, the players need to be bringing their A-game to every contest, and they learned/were reminded of this. They did say that they were amazed and appreciative of how much red was in the stands. They do love our fans.

But now they are so glad to be able to focus everything on USC, and they cannot wait for this game, just like the fans. They fully realize the historical implications, and realize this is as big of a stage as they may ever play on. They absolutely love the fact this is the premier game of the weekend and that it is a night game. They are hoping we make it the loudest game ever in Memorial - that is straight from several players.

We can be assured of maximum effort, maximum excitement, maximum energy level, and the best performance possible. Everyone relax about Wake.

I am going with NU 28, USC 24.

God I am so jacked for this game already. I can't wait to get to Lincoln on Friday.

Thank you ever so much. Hopefully this plays out like is stated.

I too am jacked up, geeked out, and amped up for the game.

Nope it's all the coaches fault

What I suspected, but it's great to get confirmation.

The Huskers simply didn't look ready to go against Wake. A step slow, no real energy - nothing. It is gratifying to know that they still prevailed against a quality opponent, under stifling hot conditions, as visitors.

Bring on USC - it's gonna be a different ballgame!
