i live in SD.. Plenty of good quality hotels right near the stadium in an area called 'Hotel Circle'.

Gaslamp area is not close to the stadium--prob 8-10 miles by car.. But very nice. tons of restaurants and bars. Nite life can get a bit crazy down there.
