After witnessing the game on Saturday, Nebraska has the chance of being 9-0 going down to Austin to play the Longhorns in November. After November they very well could be 11-2. But that’s another story.
I saw many things. First and foremost I saw a defense that had a set of nuts. A defense with passion. A defense with a purpose that wanted nothing but to dominate the m-f'rs. Nothing else would be accepted. I haven’t seen a defensive effort like this from the Blackshirts since the ’99 defense with the Brown brothers. In fact the team reminds me a lot of them. Like the ’99 team it will take a few games for the offense to get going. Remember the Southern Miss game in ’99, if it weren’t for two defensive scores and a key stop near the goal line NU would have lost the BIG 12 Conference. But that same team also defeated Tennessee by nearly 30 in the Fiesta Bowl putting up 42.
This current team must and will rely on its defense for the first couple of games. NU will be playing teams where this is possible to accomplish and get wins. But if the offense doesn’t get in gear they won’t be able to beat those high-powered teams they will face in November. Offenses always take time to gel. Plus it’s the first game I bet they ran 15 different plays ALL game. Not to mention timely penalties, missed assignments, bad clock management and a slew of other first game problems. The positive is that these are all correctable.
Everyone’s going to point fingers at Lord - but it simply isn’t warranted. There are some things he needs to improve on and yes he did throw two consecutive passes into the ground, but the very next series he came back strong. You could tell by his throwing motion when he screwed up, he was short arming his passes. Trying to aim the ball instead of letting his natural abilities take over. If you were at the game later in the third he throws a perfect 35 yard strike to Herian right on the money. Unless he gets hurt or the games a blowout we will have Lord at the helm, and I am very comfortable with that. Dailey will not get time over Lord, no matter what Mary tells us. Just too young. Lord is a fine player with excellent moves and fluid speed.
The defense, led by Williams, played an inspiring game. Mark my words; you will not see OSUs “three amigos” held to such small numbers for the rest of their careers in college. Pelini is the real deal. After the first drive, Pelini makes the proper adjustments, something sorely missing from the Husker coaches in the past (oh by the way Bohl got his first win at N. Dakota St. yesterday), and they didn’t give up a single point thereafter. A number of occasions on third down situations they literally put two guys on Woods. The D forced Fields to look elsewhere. He couldn’t because of the fierce pressure. There were parts of the game where I didn’t mind the D coming back onto the field because they were hot.
Time of possession was huge. The O-line defeated OSU up front physically and it showed. The defense gave the all of us a reason to believe. Folks listen to me. IF the defense can continue this we will be put in prime position for some special things. Mark my words.
I realize this is only the first game, but I see something. Remember I’m smart and know these things…you are all stupid, especially those who have never played football and try to talk like they know something.
Stick with me my people, good things to come..

P.S. One last thing, NU will beat K-St. They are overrated big time.
