Husker Quarterback Weekly 1: Kickoff Edition

Wed Sept 1, 2004

--------------------------------------------

Well you knew it was coming. I finally rip myself away long enough from downloading 10-second porno trailers and decided to take my first crack it. Thats right, the first edition of Husker Quarterback Weekly has finally hit the Huskerboard.com shelf for the 2004 season. The Bobs at Huskerboard have sent me enough memos on my TPS cover report, so I figured I better get cracking on this or else. Ummmmmmmmmmmm, Yeahhhh!

Actually that title finally has some pull. We have a Quarterback whos actually gonna throw the ball and BE a Quarterback! Ive been saying all along that Dailey is our man. Even when Beck arrives next year, I believe it will take an unbelievable effort to overtake Dailey. Hes got great freakin temperament for the game and that is so key. Hes not into yelling at his teammates, referees, and not even himself. Hes a cool customer. A leader, a prime example of what it takes to play the position. His arm is average, but so was Joey Montanas. He sees the game in front of him before the snap. He’s not afraid to audible. He will be thoroughly tested this year, and will probably come up on the short end, but he will do much better than most in the Big 12 give him credit for now.

The suspensions hurt. Incognito, Horne, DeLone, and Miller are all players looking for a great deal of time. There are a lot of quarters in those four guys. One of the reasons this sh#t pisses me off the most is if the national media gets a hold of it. Some have said Incognito has committed similar actions as LP had. Others say, he will be out for a week and be done with it. If he can get through this year I hope he goes pro. And mark my words he’ll be pushed to do just that. Hornes just a lazy slob. Get him out and open up a scholarship for someone committed.

The Blackshirts unveiled their first-teamers this week.... or did they. Apparently they are over the starting 11. Screw that. If you start you get one. None of this nickel back sh#t, second team DE. Jay Moore gets one after he is moved down a notch behind Bernard barnyard Thomas. No, no, no this is not right. I couldn’t care what he did in the weightroom, if he volunteered to move that b!^@h Thomas up, that means YOU ARE SECOND team, which means NO Blackshirt. Huston, the nutcase who punched an innocent fan gets one????? Again, no. Playing in the dime package only does not warrant a Blackshirt. A school teacher who yells all the time loses his or her students because the yelling becomes less effective. Too much of something diminishes its significance.

What a journey we’re about to embark upon. We have absolutely no idea where this season is going to go. I believe the coaching staff assembled at NU is one of the best in the country. I truly believe that. All the dynamics and characteristics of all these men are simply stirring. Callahan is here for the long haul. He won’t jet, unless Peterson gives him a reason to. So keep your f'ing distance Peterson. People have ranked us as high as 11 to the mid 30s in magazine polls. This is fun, this is interesting. Give NU a year or two and you will see that old look. The big three. Bigger, stronger and faster. Domination. That calm, quiet confident Husker. It wont be long.

Thoughts on this weekend:

NU will actually run the ball quite a bit. You will see the Huskers shift an awful lot this weekend, along with some simple pops up the middle with Ross. Herian will catch the Dragon route 6 times against Western. Dailey will throw for a cool 200. And the Big Red legion will chant Go Big Red on O street after a 37 – 10 victory. I know, bold predictions huh. But considering the institutional face-lift that has taken place, and the fact that we ARE playing a team called the Necks, we dont want to tip our hand too much for the Moneymakers lurking in the shadows waiting to land that haymaker and become overnight world-beaters, ala Iowa State, MU.. et al. That bullsh#t is over!

Alright thats plenty for the first week outta the gates. Look for some heavier hitting in the coming weeks. For now I need to get back to my trailer porn. . . or was it porn trailers. . . whatever. Hmmm … I wonder what Hot Melissa is doing tonight on Nebraska.coeds??

AHhh, I don't know but I think you are a little too high on Dailey. Good, solid QB but I think Beck is that good. Dailey will be challenge the year after. But he will pull a game out for us.

I agree with the coaching staff. We have just moved leaps ahead of lasts years prehistoric offense. The recruits that are being pulled in by these guys far excedes anything last year. I remember we were all crying about last year how we didn't get Sirean Adams and he was a three star guy. We have more four star guys now than we had all of last year. But as always you never know how there going to come out. BUt I do believe these recruiting services are getting better and better. Coaches ask for there lists all the time.

I'm not sure we'll pass for all those yards, closer to 150

Good stuff. KInd of raw but hey that's your style,

I dunno - I see a lot of upside to Dailey. As noted, he seems to be cool under pressure. And for the next couple of years, I see "escapability" as a necessary trait. If that's the case - and I really hope it isn't, meaning the offensive line would be jelling sooner than I expect - then there's a good chance that Dailey could be the guy for the rest of his career. He will have gotten two years of experience that no one else will have.

As for the arm, it depends on the type of West Coast offense that is going to be run. If the majority of passes are in the short to intermediate route, with the hope that the receivers can catch the pass in stride and keep running into the secondary, then I think Dailey's arm will be more than sufficient.

I'm excited to see how he does - he's going to stink up the stadium in some games simply from lack of experience. But overall, I think he can be a true asset at the position.

Good to have you back E-Red!!

Well I agree with you guys on most fronts. I also believe this is going to be a roller coaster of a season - common to a pass-happy offense. I just hope Joe D gets the full opp that he so deserves - even when times are bad. I know how the backup QB in a passing system always seems to be the fav, so I really hope the coaches nor Husker fans sway too soon, b/c that could be his demise, as Jordan would step in when our O-line is more seasoned and have a better opp to succeed.

Either way, good article, and I look forward to your future commentaries Eric!!

Go Big Red baby!!!

Not bad Red, Herian came up with 7 catches for 98 and Dailey threw for 218. Screw that, that's pretty damn close. That's awfully good. Keep'em coming with those predictions.

Great game on sat after seeing it I am even more excited about the season. The only thing that really concerned me was the kicking game that really needs to be addressed as the season moves on and they need to kick field goals and they need to hold field position.

Joe Daily looked great I think he learned some lessons that will carry us over Southern Miss.
