Husker sophomores aim to show corner position in good hands

This year, another step, starting six games at cornerback. Jones feels both he and Kalu have the potential to play in the NFL if they keep fine-tuning their craft. The native of Jacksonville, Florida, is the first to list what he can do better: whether it's his backpedal, how he presses a receiver, how he comes out of his break. It all needs constant attention.

Jones likes growing at the position along with Kalu. They keep each other up when something goes wrong. They feed off each other's energy.

NFL? Well, let's just say we have a ways to go. Kalu and Jones both have the size and speed to play Sundays. On paper, anyway. But they're going to have to show it on the field before they get a sniff from any NFL teams.

It improved over the course of this season. We'd be in a whole different situation if they played in September/October like they played the last three games. Even so, our pass defense needs to improve. A lot.

Confidence, bordering on arrogance is a good thing. Name me one "low key" successful CB who doesn't have a certain swagger and attitude in college or in the NFL. I like it. About time this team start thinking like they are capable/have the potential to be great.

"Everything needs work on," Jones said. "I don't think I'm going to reach perfection. But I'm going to strive for it."
