1Gb download isn't great, but it sure aint terible either. For comparison's sake, Verizon's new tiered data plan charges $30/mo for 2GB download.

All depends on how you'll use it, when you'll use it and where you'll use it. If you have a wireless network at home, spend a lot of time in hotels, coffee shops, restaurants, etc., you probably don't need the 3G (most places have free wifi, but good speeds aren't guaranteed).

If I was you I'd go with the WiFi iPad. If you think about it anywhere you go whether its a restrauant, airport, Panera Bread, etc they usually have free WiFi. You'll need a wireless router at your house to use it but I'm a fan of WiFi over 3G because its a lot faster.

If you already have a smartphone don't even bother buying a 3G iPad because you'll just be spending more money with the data plan and throwing money down the drain.

Thanks for the info guys I have access to wireless most places and one place I know I will use it doesn't have an available wireless network.

We have the WiFi and it is wonderful...We took it on vacation and it keep the kids occupied at the airport which was worth the money.

I wouldnt get 3G. Its useless if its not on an actual phone. Get wifi and save some cash

One more thing to consider:

If you already have a smart phone (and depending on your carrier) you might be able to tether your 3g phone signal to the WiFi iPad. Might be a cheaper option than paying for 3g for both.

Yeah I asked Verizon about tethering 3G and they don't allow that. For twenty dollars a month I can make my I phone the wifi hot spot and get the wifi from my phone. And use it with the iPad and get 3gig a month instead of one for twenty
