Icey hot

ok. Strange question.

My daughter runs cross country. Late in the year she had some muscles in her back that would tighten up. She would put Icey hot on and it would help.

Well, at state yesterday, her back was tight before the race and put some on.

Strange thing. After the race, her back was burning and red.

Why would that be? She had never put it on before she raced before.

It's been my experience that stuff can produce both results, icey and hot, thus the name. Guessing that putting it on before running 3 miles may have triggered the hot result. That stuff is a lot milder than the Kramer analgesic balm we used to use back in the day. Put that in somebody's jock strap if you want to see burning and red. Ha.

Probably best to seek some medical advice, but ... sounds like an allergic reaction? I'm not sure if exercise can trigger or exacerbate a reaction, but it might be a possibility.

Did it keep her back from tightening up? Might be worth it if the burning and redness is tempory. My son also would have problems at times with his back muscles when running XC. He would usually just have one of the trainers massage it afterwards. Not sure if he ever used icey hot.

Well, she wasn't complaining about her back after the race. Probably due to the fact their team got 2nd place. They were pretty excited.

Her career is over so won't have to worry about it any more.

Just thought it was a strange occurrence.

If her back continues to tighten up, have her try a foam roller. They are the best life savers when it comes to tightening up and sore muscles.
