Inactive Members of the Mod Team

Wanted to start a convo about our inactive fellow Mods. We've got 13 Moderators, 14 including Nexus, but a few of them are pretty much inactive.

For example:

bennychico11 - Last active 4/26/2013

DJR313 - Last active 3/21/2013

eliot1171 - Last active yesterday, but only two posts in the last year

hoyamannn - Last active in 2011

huskerguy - Last active 3/31/2012 - no posts in the last year

HuskerWeekly.com - Last active in 2006 - This predates my membership here, and I have no idea who/what this is

I See Red People - Last active last week, but only a few posts in the last year

Ohio Pete - Last active 10/27/12

Nexus - Last active 5/27/13 (seems hard to believe)

I remember DJR telling us life stuff had gotten the better of him and he wouldn't be able to be around as much, but several of these guys haven't been around at all, and the rest very little.

I would suggest asking these guys if they want to continue being Mods, and if so, are they able to be around more often? Send them a PM and wait until the end of this season to see what their response is. If they don't respond, maybe consider retiring them from the Mod team.

Regarding Nexus, his position as Mod/Guru of the Recruiting forums is a good idea, but he's not around a lot and I don't think a lot of the rest of us go in those forums a lot. Should we consider adding another person to his group, and if so, who? I don't follow recruiting enough to know who to ask, but I can name off the top of my head about a dozen guys who frequent those forums who should NOT be allowed in here.

So there's no grand plan with this post, just wanted to put this in front of everyone and see what you all think. In general I think BRI, rawhide, zoogies, AR and I can handle the forum, with help from Addict as he's able to be around (I think his bed time is still 8pm, though. He's like 15 years old - did you guys know that?)

I know that NU-Bo posts a lot of requests in the recruiting forum, but I don't know about handing him powers there, or especially giving him access to the leadership forum. I don't know who else is very active in the recruiting forums, however.

I think once you're a part of this team, you should remain a part of it until you decide to leave -- time not being an issue. Whether a guy disappears for a few months or longer, I should think there's always room for him, whenever he may happen to come back. Real life comes first for everyone here, and being a mod indicates trustworthiness first, with the fulfillment of responsibilities something that naturally comes out of the entire group of us.

If there are a lot of inactive moderators, though, it could be time to discuss whether to bring in some new ones. Maybe we can start keeping an eye on candidates over the course of this season and add one or two guys to the team in the next offseason - by which time it will be four years since the last round of multiple additions.

Hey, a-hole, I can stay up until 9pm now because I got all As on my report card last spring. I suggest you get your facts straight.

I think the primary consideration is adding mods. We need to think of folks that can be on the board often - particularly during the day - and that won't immediately generate a negative feeling. For example, Carlfence is a guy I would normally consider, but the conservatives in the Politics forum would sh#t a brick. Stigori is someone that seems to fit the bill off the top of my head.

What I suggest is we use this thread to throw out a few name and discuss them. If we can settle on a few, we see what Chad and Eric say. My one request is that whomever we pick be someone that seems to be posting during regular business hours. Too many of us simply can't be here during those times.

Interesting......you can totally delete hoyamann, haven't talk to him for years.

DDR and i see red people were by my house last week, they just have young, growing families, moving houses sh#t like that.

I agree with you guys. Add a member mod who can be here during the day.

Do you guys think we need another Mod? If so, cool, but I think we're handling the board pretty well as is.

If you think we do, I'd recommend Ulty if he'd do the job. We worked together in my office the last two years. He's very reliable, familiar with investigative work, discreet, the whole thing. Only thing is, he has two young children at home. He's on like me - during the day, at the office when things are slow. In the evenings... not so much.

I don't think we "retire" guys as mods to be honest with you. I'm on the board a lot, but most of the stuff gets taken care of and there doesn't seem to be as many problems as before. I don't really have an opinion one way or the other in reference to adding an additional person.

My feeling is that our "weak spot" is business hours. Partly, that's probably due to the fact that I simply don't have time during those hours to hit the board most days. And when I can, it's usually through an iPhone or iPad - and because neither supports Java some of the controls don't work. So, I can't do a lot of things in terms of bans or the like. And I don't have a feel for our coverage during business hours. I suspect, Lance, that you are the only one that can devote much time to it. That's a worry - if you get sick or for some other reason can't visit, we won't be able to deal with issues quickly enough.

However, that's just my gut - I could be wrong. If some of the other mods are regularly on during the business day, let us know.

But also, let's hear any thoughts you have on who might be a good mod from the members, and why. If we do need some more coverage, then we need to figure out who that will be. Ulty seems like a good choice also from what I've seen of his posts. But as Lance intimated, he may not want the job, so we need a list of three or more that we can approach if we need to.

I don't think where a person's stance in the P&R forum is grounds for elimination for a mod position.

The only drawback would be showing preference to like minded individuals. That would be a mod NO NO

carl really gets into it with people in the P&R forum, though. I don't think that's a great sign, although I would consider him a member in pretty good standing.

I remember HuskerfaninOkieland was a candidate last time. Did he not want to do it?
