Is there any hope for the search function?

Last I understood, there are or were some integrity problems with the board's database. When someone would initiate a search, the board would crash. I believe it has something to do with the shear volume of posts that exist in the database.

If it does, I'd be curious to know if there is a way we can prune some old posts to salvage the search functionality. Maybe establishing some pruning rules in the process to keep the board as "lean and mean" as possible.
