Three of the biggest complainers all complaining about each other.

I'm issuing teach a warning and a temporary suspension. So far as I can tell, he instigated this whole rash of reports after I specifically asked him to not be in the thread anymore. Yet, he went back, started reporting posts, started posting again, started trolling again and helped further along the problems. He's not the only guilty party in that thread but he knows better than this.

 
Moiraine is fairly irate because she refuses to acknowledge the behavior in that thread, from multiple parties, was unacceptable. She's been PM'ing me about it.

FYI if you're curious why she's asking to be banned.

She also thinks we locked it because it was created by a woman about sexism and several men disagreed with her.

So I went back and looked at all reports that I could see from that thread. Of the 19 that I counted, 10 were from teach that I believe were for no other reason than to troll the mods and 5 were reporting teach. I don't know, maybe we were premature in locking the thread, and should have just started with suspending/banning teach. It appears he was the main problem. Thoughts?

 
I don't know.  The first 12 reports from that thread were not about teach - though he was the one doing a lot of the reporting. BB Hemingway and Landlord also appear to be involved extensively.

Landlord and Moiraine are some of the biggest complainers on the board - especially Landlord.  I'm not saying teach doesn't try to stir the pot.  But they really don't care what he says, they just label it trolling.

1.  Is Cam an a-hole fuckface that hates girls:  Yes:  we all agree
2.  Is that reporter "sort of" a racist?  Yes:  We all agree on it but some of us are trying to pretend like there are levels of racism:  There aren't.  Period.  
 
So...since we all agree...why don't we just plus one this post and realize how simple this really is?  Two a$$hole$ were a$$hole$...One was an a-hole the other night and the other was an a-hole like 5 years ago.

Which of these is suspension/ban worthy and - if they are - are we going to continue to treat other posters with similar posts in the same manner?

 
Of those, no. But apparently he was trolling earlier in the thread, I had not really kept up after the first few pages so I didn't see that. Plus, he already has a reputation of being a troll, not saying this is a reason to discipline him. I will say, I was close to suspending him when he reported 10 posts that had nothing wrong with them. To me, it felt like he was trolling us by abusing the report function.

 
The main reason I suspended him was because he was causing some issues early on in the thread and I suggested he no longer post in there since he couldn't keep it on track. He stayed out for a few days and then came back and, instead of focusing on the topic, he brought in his usual style of contributing/trolling.

Locking may have been a bit premature but the thread was a continuous source of problems.  Moiraine is/was incredibly pissed off about it, said she didn't feel comfortable anymore and tried to make a big public display by starting a thread that said 'just ban me.' I get that the one thread about sexism got locked, but imo, not all threads are created equal. Moiraine, Landlord, BB and teach wouldn't keep it on track so, outside of warning/banning all of them, locking seemed like the best way to nip the behavior.

I don't think there's a right/wrong answer here. I see Moiraine's point.

 
I do as well, I was just tired of seeing all the reports.I had been pretty busy lately, so I wasn't able to really moderate the thread. So my knee-jerk reaction was to just ban the thread. Maybe that wasn't the best way to do it, or at least was premature. I know P&R gets a little more heated than other forums, so I don't know how this compared to other threads. I don't know if it would be worth re-opening the thread and just have it closely monitored.

 
I'm torn on reopening the thread. On one hand, I don't think it would be a bad move, but I also don't want to reward Moiraine's horrendous behavior. Instead of rationally trying to discuss the closure with me, she PM'd me and was immediately pissed off. That's not how you approach disagreements IMO. Here was her PM to me:

Moiraine is not going to agree with anything we say, particularly in that Woodshed thread. It may be to all of our benefit to no longer involve ourselves in there. We've said what we had to say I think. She can continue to type until her fingers hurt. Outside of Landlord acting as her sidekick, most people don't seem to care that much.

We shouldn't reverse our decision now even if it was the wrong one. Stick by what we said, move forward, she can either get over it or not get over it. She's always been argumentative, is never wrong, and everyone is out to get her. We'll never do a good enough job in her eyes. If the thread was generating a ton of reports then closing it is right. We don't have time to babysit every thread. 

 
I read through the woodshed thread, and I don't disagree with what you guys did. Moiraine is whining because she thinks she's being picked on, and ignoring evidence. Landlord needs to shut his mouth because the very thing he's advocating Teach get banned for... HE DOES ALL THE TIME.
