Well, someone discovered how to get past the swearing filters by inserting color tags into a potty-mouth word. mmmtodd's post in "Last to post wins" was

fuck you all, i win.
I cleaned it up and raised his warning level. I sent him this message:

Warning Level Raised
Dude, you had to know that was going to earn you a warning. If not... not sure what to tell you. Board rules about swearing are pretty clear. Please don't make me do this again, all right?
He responded with:

To which I responded:

Your post in "Last to post wins." The F-Bomb. Disguising it with different color letters doesn't make it OK.
Again, board rules are really clear about this.

This is what he posted in the "last to post" thread:

whoops. wont happen again, i think.

in all honesty tho, thats pretty weak. rules are rules, yadda yadda, but my intent wasnt to 'circumvent rules' and you could have just as easily asked me to edit it. probably would have been waaaay easier on your end.
Finally, here was his PM to me:

okie doke. i was far from trying to circumvent board rules. if i would have just typed it, the filter would have changed it like it normally does. i didnt know the color thing would affect that. im not that 'board smart.' i wont let it happen again, but i want to be clear that i didnt have any 'evil' intent. thats ridiculous.

He screwed up and it is to our discretion when to raise the warning level. To be honest. I dont have a set rule of thumb. Each case is unique and requires you to consider a few things.. severity.. intent...posters past rep..

These things pretty much guide me through weather or not to raise a warning level.

He will get over it though :cheers

Well, he seems like a good guy to me, but I guess I don't "know" him that well.

There's no set time to how long he keeps his warning level up, is there? Could be a day, could be a week, could be a year, right? If hes' got a good reputation with people, I don't have a problem dropping him back down, and soon.

Hell, I swear like a sailor when I'm driving. I'm not all holier-than-thou when it comes to swearing. I just think it's pretty common knowledge that the F-bomb is never gonna fly on a message board, no matter how you type it. That's why I bumped the level up.

There's no time limit. However, I can't think of a case in which I've dropped one. The "3-strikes and you're out" is a rule of thumb. What I've always done when raising a warning level is to also post in the thread in which the offense occured, warning them just as I do in the PM. Then, I can paste the link to my post, quoting the poster's offense, so that it's always available for later review - that's been handy on more than one occasion. Besides, it helps to remind the others of the rules when you post it in the thread, as well as making a post that they can't later edit and clean up.

I think this was fine. Raising warning levels do not prohibit someone from posting.

Sounds right to me. Nobody's fault but his own.

Question: is there actually a policy against content of youtube videos? I assume the same criteria applies as for posts but just wasn't sure. It seems like it was the content, rather than the useless nature of the post that caused the original warning.

If you watch that video you'll see someone snorting a line of Coke somewhere in the middle. That's why I said "Please stop spamming the thread."

We've never enunciated a policy for YouTube videos, but as far as I'm concerned, the issue is content regardless of delivery method. If it's something that we wouldn't want posted as a statement, then we don't want it if posted as a picture or a video.

If this jerk so much as hints at this kind of behavior, suspend and let us know. As far as I'm concerned, he's stated he won't follow the rules. Couple that with his attitude, and I see no reason to cut him any slack - we'll ban him.

Good job. And remember, you don't have to go alone on any of this. We got your back.
That's true, and knowing that, I think it's best if I don't send messages/warnings to mmmtodd for a while. It seems to me that he's upset at me as much as anything. If I notice anything I'll bring it here, and if it's worthy of contacting mmmtodd about, I'll abstain in favor of someone else. Maybe if he hears it from another Mod he'll get that it's not some personal vendetta I have.

Thanks, guys.
