Nebraska and Iowa

Yesterday, I went across the Missouri River to Council Bluffs to the Horseshoe for my sister's 21st birthday (she wanted to know what gambling was like). I wore my favorite Husker shirt and hat that i bought online. As i walk in and I am headint to sit down at the bar and have a couple drinks, I met a Hawkeyes fan, at first the air was a bit stuff, but we started talking about the move and how the teams compare to this season and the outlook for each team, things went well, until we started talking about the possible rivalry, i believe the question was Could the 2010 Huskers beat the 2010 Iowa team. Obviously i said yes, Nebraska could win, but it would be a very close call. His face turned red and started shouting at me that the Hawkeyes would send the Huskers packing and regret the day they decided to play in the big boys league. It lead to a scuffle in the bar, when i walked away, not wanting to call attention to myself for the 10 o'clock news. So i walked outside to get some air, i started to head to the car to take a quick drive around while my sister was still on the slots. Thats when i bumped into the guy again when he spilled his beer over my shirt, i push him away from me and that is when he spat in my face and said "Husker *uckers suck a$$." I lost my cool and broke the guys nose and walked off.

After driving back, explaining to my sister that i punch the paper towel dispenser in the bathroom to cover up the blood on my hand), i thought to myself, I think this is the last time i will wear Husker apparel inside an Iowan casino. If the guy who i broke his nose is on this board (which i doubt), sorry i broke your nose. Let The Battle of the Missouri River begin!

 
If this is a true story then you better not stop wearing the colors, I don't care where you are! That would only mean you let those pu&&y Hackeye fans get to you. If anything you should wear even more Husker gear the next time you're there.

It also sounds to me like some Iowa fans need a lesson in how to handle winning (well what little of it they have done lately) Nice job popping the guy though, I don't see how he gave you much of a choice. :box

If beer was spilled it must have been an ISU fan posing as an Iowa fan because he was too embarassesd :) I hold out hope that Iowa and Nebraska play in the Fiesta bowl this year so we can settle it on the field. Being an Iowa fan I do think Iowa would win this year :) Unfortunately I think Nebraska will have the upper hand next year given who we will lose between this year and next.

 
As a Nebraska fan living in Iowa, I dont get why Iowa fans put so much emphasis on being better than NU. Iowa fans can also be rather illogical about why NU and Iowa dont play on a yearly basis, which is obivious.

I tell them it just dont matter who is better. Iowa needs to win their conference and NU needs to win their conference. I worry this rivalry will turn into NU ISU, where one side values the rivalry much more than the other.

 
Lol you should wear your eric crouch jersey, and run people over like the way he did the last 2 times that we played iowa

 
Iowa plays Arizona on Sept 18. Will be interesting to see how they match up.

They play away at 10:30 and we play Washington away at 2:30.

If Arizona wins, we definitely have bragging rights.

So to make sure nobody thinks I am trying to act as if I am a Nebraska fan I put up front I am not. I went to The University of Iowa and am a Hawkeye, and very proud of it.

That being said, for any real fan of either team to debate who will win the first conference game between Iowa and Nebraska in Lincoln in 2011 is foolish. I hope Iowa wins, and the majority of the members of this board hope Nebraska wins. Fair enough.

Frankly, I am more concerned about the OP taking his sister to a casino. Also, I want to make sure that those who are unfamiliar with the geography of Iowa understand that the entire population of Council Bluffs, Iowa represents less than 2% of the entire population in the state of Iowa. Additionally, the majority of those trailer dwelling residents are Nebraska fans, and the majority of the rest of Iowa is more than happy to let Husker Nation have them. Take Carter Lake as well. Iowa has according to the US Census Bureau approximately 1.2 million more residents than Nebraska's 1.79 million residents. I'm sure that the loss of a few border dwelling souls will be ok.

I am fired up, however, about the new natural rivalry. I'm sure that Nebraska will win its share of games, and I hope you realize Iowa will too. One thing is for sure: This will be a rivalry your fan base can get behind far better than the contrived rivalry with Colorado. It may never become classic Oklahoma v. Nebraska, but it will be fun.

I had a couple of jobs that took me into the depths of those "trailer parks" of Western Iowa. I can tell you that I saw many, many more Iowa flags flown there than Nebraska flags.

I'm of the opinion that this is not as sure of a thing as you think it is.
