We're looking at implementing a new feature and need your feedback. We have a new test skin called QB Test 2 to which all of you should have access. When you click on it, look at the bottom of the screen (give it a second to load). You'll see a new toolbar that is designed to drive users to the full HuskerBoard Video player. We need your input on the toolbar.

For me, there's only one real problem. If you'll look at the far left of the toolbar, you'll see the mini-player/preview window. Immediate to the right is the phrase "College Sports Video Highlights". The problem is that the phrase has a transparent background. That means when you scroll the Board, that phrase overlays anything "behind" it - making it difficult to impossible to read either the phrase or what's behind it. I've suggested to the vendor that what they need to do is make the background a solid color that extends from the mini-player/preview window all the way to the black tab at the far right that has the phrase "Powered By Digital Sports Ventures". That way, there's no overlay - the effect is that the toolbar simply "shortens" the actual screen by a very small amount, which should be no big deal. It'd be like having a browser toolbar at the bottom of the screen and wouldn't interfer with the Board proper. What do you think of that?

In the event the vendor can't or won't do that, do you feel that members could get used to it the way it is? Especially if we roll it out now, before the season starts?

There are also a couple of nice features with the toolbar other than Husker highlights:

1. There is a Close button at the far right of the toolbar. Handy.

2. To the left of the Close button is a button entitled "Other Teams". You click it, and a list of all the D-1 programs show up. Pick a team, click it, and our full video player opens with the videos for the team you selected. I see this as being very handy with the conference change - something the members would really like.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. We'd really appreciate hearing from all of you on your thoughts. Thanks!

 
I personally don't care for it, but I like the option to close it, which I will do most of the time. I just wonder if we're trying to do "too much" as far as the board is concerned and I don't want the place to start looking junky. I understand the purpose of it though.

My sentiments. It's OK, I won't be unhappy if we use it, but I'll keep it minimized most of the time.

 
The functionality seems to be a bit weird. One of the annoying things is the vertically scrolling feature. ("Watch the hottest videos", "Watch Husker highlights", etc). They better be paying a lot, I'm thinking.

 
Thanks, everyone. My take from the responses is that it's at least tolerable, particularly with the Close button.

I think this is something we'll roll out, but perhaps not for a few months. I'd like to get us closer to the start fall camp, when folks are really starting to feel withdrawals, so that they actually might want to use it to review last season both for the Huskers and other teams we'll be facing for the first time.

If we do roll it out, I'm wondering whether we also need the side player? Since the toolbar at the bottom appears on every page, including the page with the side player, I'm thinking the side player might be overkill. On the other hand, given it's size, it might result in some clicks by folks who ignore the toolbar.

Again, any thoughts would be appreciated.
