Is "b!^@h" a word we're worried about? In this context it's offensive to Fro, and we all see why, but is it worse than any of the other words we see, even if they're XX'd out? Here's an example I'm on the fence about. To me that's unnecessary, and worse than the "b!^@h" poster.

Is this just my prude side showing through? :)

We've edited people's status for using that word. I think the reference you pointed it out is slightly different. The signature photo was quite large and having the word b!^@h show up over and over in 32pt font as you are scrolling through threads isn't appropriate IMO.

Inappropriate in that instance but in general conversation without intent of name calling it has been allowed.

I would pm them and ask them to remove it as we have got complaints.

I've removed a couple of things on my own, but in general I don't like to do that. It feels invasive to go into someone's Status and change the wording.

On another board there's a Mod who delights in changing posts of the members. There's no "Edited by" line on the post when he does it, and he's used it to make some people, including me, look pretty foolish. It's pretty crummy, and even though I don't screw with people here, I can see how they might feel to discover someone came in and messed with their stuff. I always put my name on it if I change something, but in general I prefer to have them do it.

You will usually get a much warmer response by just shooting them a polite pm. If they get ugly about it then we can take the matter into our hands and just remove it.

While I agree in general, what we've done at times is edit the sig, notify the user we have and why, and that seems to work well. I think the problem would be if that's abused or if it was done without notification - something I'm not worried about with anyone of us.

I had originally just sent them a PM asking them to censor the word, but I never received a PM back from them. It appears it was taken care of so no worries.
