O'Hanlon Conference Defensive Player of the Week

When was the last time that happened?

Three different blackshirts taking the award back to Lincoln?

Had to have been awhile.

Hell, if O'hanlon hadn't had such an awesome game, one could argue Dillard could've brought that home too.

This is also the 5th week in a row, the dpotw participated in a Cornhusker game... Thats every week during conference play.

BIG 12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEKMatt O’Hanlon, Nebraska, S, Sr, Bellevue, Neb.

Matt O’Hanlon tied the school-record with three interceptions, made 12 tackles and broke up a pass in Nebraska’s 10-3 win over No. 19/20 Oklahoma. He became the fourth Cornhusker to pick off three passes in a game, with all coming in the second half. His first interception set up a Nebraska field goal that gave the Huskers a 10-3 third quarter lead while the final one ended Oklahoma’s last scoring opportunity to seal the win. His 12 tackles were a career-high and included nine solo stops. NU’s five total interceptions were its most in six seasons and the most take-aways in 70 games.
Hell of a game, and another solid performance by a guy some wanted run off the team after the VA Tech disaster.

Let's all stop and remember who this kid is - a Walk-On, born and bred Husker Red, a damned hard worker, a good kid, a married man, and someone we can all be proud of.

Congratulations, Matt. Well-deserved honor.

EDIT - I reported this for merging. Sorry - I didn't see the first thread.

Not to take anything away from Matt but he did drop two other pics that were right in his hands. Could have been 5 picks. Congrats on the award Matt.

Good job Matt!

Congratulations! You deserve it!

Actually, it could only have been max four picks. He dropped one on OU's last drive, then INT'd it like two plays later. But there's a reason he's on defense. :)

People were blowing up on the gameday thread about Matt, it was actaully comical thinking back to the VT game and to which extremes this guy has been. He has been playing very well this season and its refreshing to see walkons like Matt and Henery making impacts for this team.

All I remember about that VT game is reading that after the game, O'Hanlon walked out of the locker room, put his head on his wife's shoulder, and cried.

Anyone bashing that kid after that game was selling him short. He's all about the Huskers, and there isn't a guy in this state who feels worse about that play than O'Hanlon did. I was getting REALLY pissed reading some of the comments about O'Hanlon here on the board after the game.

I was so disappointed in the Husker faithful for the way they treated this kid.

Obviously, we were all upset about what happened in the game, but a football game is a culmination of plays and not just one play. If our offense had gotten a touchdown or if our defense had made a play before that, we wouldn't have been in that situation.

It was disgraceful for fans to go on his Facebook and tell him to quit the team. I bet all of you are singing his praises now that he had such a big game.

I was psst about the play and the way we let it slip away, but even with the blown assignment he ran the guy down before he hit paydirt and we almost kept them out. The guy may not have all the physical tools but he makes it up with the amount of heart he plays with.

I hope he continues to improve and help this team achieve its goal.
