When it comes to an offer like this, one thing you really want to look for is if most of the smaller schools around him are offering. In this case, outside of the big time program, virtually every coaching staff in his radius has come to the same conclusion that he deserves a scholarship to play football at the next level.

So with that said, it’s likely that he’s a guy who simply slipped through the cracks so far. If LSU doesn’t have you on their radar, that can happen. I will be surprised if we remain his only Power-5 offer now and it’s nice that we can always remind him we were the first big time program to see his potential and that the others (assuming there’s more) came calling after us.

 
On the surface it might seem odd to offer a player who has no other offers from P5.  If I trust the coaches to see talent (I know we've said that before but what choice do we have!) then I have to think they saw something in him that would work for this offense.
