Overrated Movies

Sounds like it will be a fun day for sure!  :cheers

Also, nice marketing I think?.  The Hunger Games, The Husker Games.  Go Big Red !!!

I saw this from Admo in the Husker Games thread and wanted to make a snarky comment about it, but didn't think the football forum was the place for it...plus I figured it could be a fun topic to talk trash about other peoples (personal) opinions!

I finally saw this a few months ago, and I couldn't figure out what the hype had been about.  I mean, I only got a few hours into it and had to stop watching, but what is the actual point of the movie and why was it so popular?  Is it just people love the whole dystopian future thing and that is enough to carry a movie with not that much action going on?  Oh boy, some rich upper class in the future lords it over the poor, plus they dress weird, how novel!  What is the point of the 'cool kids' forming a group in what is a contest to the death from which only one will emerge?  Maybe (obviously?) I just missed the big picture.

I think that since it was such a popular novel with kids that it had a huge built in audience when it came out as a movie.

Probably the most overrated movie of all time was Napoleon Dynamite.  What an absolute horrible movie.  I couldn't finish it.
Soooooo accurate!  It was more like a collection of skits.

And I will add in Swingers...which is good but people acted like it was the most amazing buddy movie ever.

I could not finish that movie either, or that Wine drinking movie Sideways.  Both were s#!t.

My problem with that one, and probably the majority of what I consider overrated movies, is that I saw it a while after it had come out and had already listened to so many people rave about it/them.

Any superhero movie.

Superhero/comic book movies.  I honestly can't understand all the hype.  I must have watched the wrong cartoons growing up.

Is it bad that Oscar buzz is a key decider for me not having any desire to watch a movie?  Not talking about older movies, but for sure almost anything since 2000.
No. Oscar buzz is almost always a good warning sign that it’s going to suck.

As far as Hunger Games, I found it entertaining enough but I saw it soon after it came out and I like dystopian type stuff. I wouldn’t say it was overrated or over hyped. Maybe by some people who had seen it but I don’t think it was in the broader media.

Here’s a few I thought were overrated and were absolutely horrible.

Like Water for Chocolate

The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Natural Born Killers
