So why Nebraska?

“Nebraska was so much different,” Smith said. “The student-athlete atmosphere — no one else has it. We all eat together. We all study together. I also felt like I wasn’t just an athlete. They really wanted me to be a good student and a good person. I just felt like they treat you so well here. It was a no-brainer. LINK
Academic assistance--there's one area where the Huskers are as good as any team in the nation. And it's not a matter of seeking out the easiest classes and easiest professors. NU makes a huge effort to turn these guys into students and get their degrees. Glad to see guys coming in who will take advantage of the opportunity.

It's easy to get caught up strictly in the success of the programs (which before anyone says anything, I know is super important), but stuff like this is great to hear. As far as building character and representing the University well, you couldn't ask for much more from our coaching staffs and all those supporting the athletes across the board.

I watched something on TV last night about the Chicago Cubs, character being the primary thing they looked for. I know our storied past had a few with low rankings on character, but I think Coach Riley puts it high on the list. Really hoping to see Nebraska rise from the ashes and be a top name in college football again.
