Do we have the ability to monitor private messages?

I ask because of this thread. Specifically the post below:

In this specific case the man disclosed his sone plays football. He needs to keep his mouth shut. On the flip side, I kind of like the idea of them trading private info. For one it shows they listen to rules and the other it adds a bit of intrigue to the board thus driving up traffic.
