I'm not saying Bo is gone. It really depends on the remaining games coming up and how well we play regardless of wins and losses. What I am interested about is who out there could propel us forward if we make HC changes at the end of this year.
My criteria is as follows: I want someone who is experienced and proven. We have the money to pay for a good coach. It will take that to get them to come here. Quality matters. No more experiments. If Bo was let go, then who realistically would be our best choices based on experience and success? There are many excellent coaches out there, but some are not realistic candidates in my opinion. These include Saban and Meyer just to name a couple.
Below are 4 guys that come to mind. They are not in order of preference just some possible candidates that might consider the Huskers.
1. Gary Patterson TCU. Great coach with a good defensive mind. With better talent I think he might be a good choice.
2. Art Briles, Baylor. This guy brought Baylor out of mediocrity. A very good coach, but still not considered elite. Unfortunately, I think the longhorns would take him in a heartbeat.
3. Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern. I think this guy can coach circles around Bo. His disadvantage is being where he is at, Still the program has made huge strides in his tenure. With our fan base and resources I think we would progress under his coaching.
Chris Peterson, Boise State. This guy has a great record over the last 8 or 9 years with just average recruiting. I think he could really coach up our payers. Combine that with some good recruiters and we could get to the next level
These are just 4 guys that come to mind. I like the idea of Frost, but choosing a young talent is risky. I want an experienced guy that would consider the Huskers and advance us up into the next level.
If you have other ideas, then please feel free to share them.
