Post New Topic

Is it possible to remove a person's ability to post a new topic? It seems there have been a number of new posters who post topic after topic after topic, many of which are 1) a repeat of topics already under discussion or 2) unnecessarily antagonistic/absurd or 3) in the wrong forum.

Could the board be set to deny the ability to post a new topic until you've been here 30 days, or had 100 posts, or something similar? This may help the Mod crew, who have been merging and moving threads at a near-record pace lately.

AR is pretty busy right now so I will tell you what I know.

I can adjust it to where a mod would have to approve the post before it got posted but that can be a very tedious thing to start.

Im sure Admins have more abilities , just wanted to get you an answer.

Yeah... that doesn't seem like less work. If there was some magic solution that would allow for less board clutter combined with less Mod work, that would be ideal.

Thanks for the response. :thumbs

There are options, but each has drawbacks. As HSKRNOKC noted, moderation is one option - a user's posts (including new topics) go into a queue until approved. A second is to create a new member rank or group. We can set that designation so that a person can't post - but that is an all or nothing proposition. Similar to a ban. The third option is to suspend posting privilges for a set time. So, if someone is cluttering the board, we can set their account so that can't post for X number of hours, days, weeks, etc.

There's nothing that allows us to deny posting based on count or time, and that's something we wouldn't want to do; is someone is a lurker and finally decides to start posting, we don't really want to inhibit that - by lurking they may have adapted to the Board's culture.

Yeah, that part about the lurker is the key drawback of blanket rules. This is more of a gripe than a suggestion, because of all the boards I've been on this is not a used idea.

I guess we just roll with the punches. There are worse things.

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated.
