For the crust:

2 cups soft butter

2 cups brown sugar

4 cups flour

1 teaspoon salt

For the filling:

8 eggs

4 cups brown sugar

1 teaspoon salt

4 cups coconut

1½ tablespoons vanilla

4 cups Rice Krispies

Mix crust ingredients until well combined. Spread or press evenly in two oiled 9-by-13-inch pans. Bake 10 to 15 minutes in a 350-degree oven until just puffy in the center. (It's OK. It will fall.) Let cool 10 minutes.

Mix the filling ingredients and spread evenly on par-baked crusts. Bake for about 30 minutes more in a 350-degree oven. Cool and cut as desired.

Makes about 48 2-inch-by-2-inch square bars - or more if you cut them smaller. Recipe may also be halved.
