Another one I'm surprised we didn't already have a thread on, but...

I've thought for some time that this is probably a formerly-banned member but I've never been able to tie it to anything.  The IPs don't overlap anywhere that I can see.

But since discussion about him has come up again in the DBHOF thread, I was looking again.  I still don't see any IP crossovers but it dawned on me to see if there were any email address similarities.

@ScarletRevival is registered to barry_m_68144@yahoo.com.  I searched for barry in emails and the only one that really jumped out at me (and the only one that showed up as Banned) is @cornstar is registered to barry.mccochener@yahoo.com.  None of the IP addresses cross but they both seem to be from the Omaha area.  68144 is an Omaha Zip Code.

That is pretty circumstantial but it seems pretty plausible to me.  I'm not sure what the best route forward is but he seems to be a pot-stirrer.

Yeah, something is off about him. He's definitely a pot-stirrer and regularly tries to flame other members, particularly in P&R.

After he came back from suspension Monday, he sent me a PM claiming that he was "falsely" accused of flaming (which, he wasn't... two minutes on his profile provides plenty of evidence... particularly since I was one of the people he flamed).

He was also upset that the post that earned him a suspension included a private "note to moderators" telling us that people here didn't know their "a$$h@!es from apple carts." For some reason, he seemed to think that a mod would just delete that part of his post before approving it. I had to explain to him that no... that's not how the moderator approval function works. It's not intended to be a personal filter.

@Mavric

After looking at Cornstar's account and activity, there are certainly a lot of similarities. A lot of one line quips. A heavy right-wing/conservative perspective. Pretty combative.

I'd bet money it's @cornstar

Honestly, after some additional review over my lunch break today, I'd support an account ban.

  • The email similarities are pretty damning. Having 'barry m' in two separate email addresses is too conspicuous to be a coincidence.
  • I couldn't find many IP similarities either, but given that corn was banned four years ago, plenty of time to have moved or completely changed internet networks.
  • The posting styles/rhetoric between accounts are eerily similar.
  • He's stirring the pot, even after being put under moderator approval and getting suspended. He's not making any effort to have honest conversations with people.
  • Ever since gaining access to P&R, he has barely posted elsewhere. That's not a bannable offense, but I'm always a bit suspicious of people like that and their intentions here.

But, overall, I think the email similarities, posting styles, and the fact that he was banned before for the same crap he's doing now is enough reason for the boot. I don't think he's a positive contribution to this community.

Any dissent?

I'm fine with him being gone because of the previous banning and abrasive style.  But I'm not sure the above is accurate.  He's had several posts that I've seen that are trying to discuss issues.  But there are a lot of people who insist that anyone disagrees with them must be trolling so he gets treated like a troll.  And when he feels attacked he fires back in kind.

That's fair; I was being a bit hyperbolic. He has made some attempts to try to have discussion filtered alongside the abrasiveness and flaming. The latter behavior is just more front of mind.

But yeah, I don't think he'd be worth reprimanding if he just held differently staunch opinions. He was criticized for saying stuff like "China Joe" but other board members have gotten away with calling Trump "the great cheeto" or some other silly nicknames over the last few years without nary a peep.

To me, the previous banning plus abrasiveness are the key factors so I'll make sure to relay that in the ban notes.
