Should We Approve?

Received the following PM:

Hi there,

I am really sorry to bother you, but my name is Scott Mulholland. I am a 5th year senior at UNL and am currently leading the competition for B1G Fan of the Year. I am trying to get as many Huskers who don't know about the competition as much involved as possible. Is it possible for you to pin or share my most recent post in regards to having everyone vote. I would really appreciate the support and I would love to represent Nebraska as the B1G Fan of the Year!

This is the link below:

Everyone can vote once EACH day until November 17th, and currently there are 2 Iowa fans trying to make a run at taking the award away from us. I need all the help I can get, so please consider sharing this with the rest of Husker Nation.

Thank you,

Scott Mulholland
Not sure I really like this idea. I see no benefit to the board, and every benefit to Scott. And while I'm sure he's a nice guy, I can see us getting swamped by these kinds of posts if we allow it. On the other hand, I may be taking a too negative view, so would like your input. Approve? Deny?

Thanks.

Your comment about being swamped is my fear. We already have one going now that I wasn't sure what to think about.

No problem to do it for one. Trouble to do it for everyone.

I agree - there's no benefit to us, it's all to benefit one guy. And we do this once, we open the floodgates for everyone to do this. There will be more and more "fan vote" contests as time wears on.

And the worst thing is, the OP of these threads keeps bumping them so they get more exposure.

Mav's idea of a subforum for stuff like this may be a good idea. It could be a blog forum where Biff the Blogger posts a link to his latest masterwork. If we become known as a one-stop shop for Husker blog links, that could drive traffic.

And we could put banner ads galore on that page.

Thanks, everyone. Yes, I like Lance's idea, but I think we need to see if we get more requests to post links to blogs and related material. If the numbers increase, I see it as something we'll want to do - while, of course, requiring the same rules that the sites don't compete with us.

I'll PM the OP and let him know.
