Sounds like the gawky kid has grown into his height(added 20lbs to 6'7" frame) and come-on quite a bit. Good eye by the staff for seeing his potential. To be honest his lack of strength and getting whipped by better guys at camps had me looking at him as a project. 1st team All-Dallas is a big deal, kid must have been really dominating out there.

The ESPN eval linked above is informative:

Coffey has some potential to be a good offensive guard. He has long arms being 6 foot seven but must gain some bulk and strength in the lower body. Has upside in the sense he can run well. Technically the best thing he does well is pull. Sometimes a little slow out of his stance but can turn upfield and get into the linebacker. Really needs to come out of his stance with a sense of urgency. Has long arms but doesn't use his hands as a weapon; must be more violent with initial blow delivery. Double team block is effective because of leg drive; he and his teammate are productive in getting the knockback. Shows some ability as a quick pass setter; uses arms and keeps defender away from body. Deep pass setting is a problem due to slowness off the ball; must set back quicker and jolt the pass rusher or gets beat on the edge. Coffey has some mobility and potential, but must play with more confidence and improve overall flexibility.
My take is that his high school offense suited his current strengths (pulling) and that camps (where they have a lot of one-on-one battles) do not. Anyway, looks pretty good in his video.

IMO it's a matter of a tall, gawky kid filling-out, getting stronger, and not letting guys just get underneath and push him back. The article lists him at 295, he is listed at 270 on rivals profile, that is a big diffference. He isn't Qvale. He had to wait longer for puberty to fill him out, He also has to work and eat to put quality size on. All Dallas/Fr Worth is a hell of an honor, this kid must have really come-on his senior season. I think he'll be a hell of a player after more S&C and training-table.
