Sort of proud of HB

I will have to say that I was a little bit encouraged by the responses (most) on the board last night and today. I almost dreaded coming on after the game, but was pleased to see that a lot of members decided to see the positives in the game.

I didn't sense any sort of meltdown, or as another thread stated "sky is falling" attitude.

We all have the ideas or thoughts of things that would or could have made a difference, me included. (I am still in a debate over Beck......not that he called a bad game......just a questioned a few)...

Of course, the obvious is the defense, and we all know the problems at DT....which I thought they did great and played above their heads.... and the lack of speed at LB....which will hopefully get better with young players. From the words behind the scenes with the scout team.

I thought this team and staff showed a ton of emotion and Husker pride. They battled, weren't intimidated, and EXPECTED to win, when many of the fans like us, didn't give them much of a chance.

It was just nice to come on here and see most have a positive attitude and even be gracious to the dawgs...

The team played hard and we were in it for most of the game. The coaches had the kids ready to go and had a gameplan that worked. It's disappointing but I have zero problems with a loss that looks this.

I'd rather we win every game but some years it just isn't meant to be.

Its a respectable loss. That's all I asked for. I have said this many times, that if we wouldn't have allowed two 70+ and 80+ TD pass, we would have been in that game to the end. Taylor then started to feel rushed to make big plays and get us back in the game, and unfortunately, it came to bite us in the a$$. It happens, but we had a great performance against a team, many would consider being #2 in the nation.

A win would just have been a blessing. A good game is all most of us wanted, and I think we got that.

You hit the nail on the head when you stated fans like us didn't give them a chance. This explains why there was no meltdown. We have a "new age" Nebraska fan in the making. Most didn't think we even belonged in the game. Most even during the game were expecting our typical team implosion which did occur. I thought the guys fought hard. They made the most of the opportunities in the first half that Georgia gave us. When things were going well for the team, the talent gap everyone seems to believe in didn't seem to be there. It only reared it's ugly head when things started to go south for us. The strength of our defense turned into our biggest weakness. The OL played extremely well when things were going our way. The OL started committing bonehead penalties and plays when things turned south. There were definite positives to take from this game. However, it's still clear we need to improve on the mental side of the game.

To reverse the statement.......YOU hit the nail on the head. The thought about "most of the fans" didn't give the team much of a chance has been in my mind a lot. I was one of those guys. I am a guy at age 43, grew up in the "scoring explosion" and well before with IM Hipp, Rick Berns, etc..... and obviously the 90's run..... I am the guy who attented every game with the "cocky" expectation to win EVERY GAME....regardless of the opponent. Now, I find myself being that "new age" Husker fan that you elude too. I think that it is just reality. Do I want to win them all ? Absolutely !! I honestly believe that there will be a time that the talent will recycle, as it did at OU and Alabama, ND....on and on and on.... We will have our time in the sun again, but reality says the days of running the college football universe for 3-4 decades is over. Very interesting thought though.

This was one of the first times that I truly felt that this team was in dire straits heading into the bowl game. From the recent happenings and blow out losses, I didn't have a lot of faith. Maybe this game helped restore that for me and others.

Well, Georgia was one play away from playing on Monday for the national title. So leading Georgia at half-time was nothing to sneeze at, IMO. Obviously there are some weaknesses that keeps us from winning the big games right now. It was a tough year on the defensive side of things with the recruiting misses the past few years. The offense for the 2013 season could be one of the better ones in the entire country, but the defense will be young and there will be growing pains. It is very hard to beat a team like Georgia without the difference makers on defense.

We hung in there through the first three quarters. The fact that some of the recruits we are targeting were impressed makes me happy. The future recruits is what makes the team who it will be.

Georgia is a solid team. NU played hard.

Next year's schedule is on paper, a much easier schedule (though Michigan will be tough and UCLA as well).

There is reason for hope. But that hope is tied to T-Mart learning how to limit TOs and the rumors of defensive talent emerging from redshirt freshmen(?).

There's been a lot of discussion over the years in terms of parity and teams not ever again having the run we did in the 90's. I find this talk all interesting considering Bama' has the chance to replicate our run in the 90's on January 7th winning three NC in four years. Florida almost did it a few years back.

This was not one of the first times that I truely felt a Nebraska team was in trouble heading into a bowl game. If one is really honest with themselves, we were in trouble a lot of the time when TO led us into a bowl game. When we had our eight bowl game skid, most of the time we were overmatched before the game even started which is why some of the scores from those games were as lopsided as they were.

The one burning question I have is how many players were on the squads of the mid-90's run would now not be allowed to even be recruited by us? When the Big 12 was formed, Texas made sure no prop. 48 players could be given schollies. While I don't know all of the in's and out's, I have been under the impression that the Big 10 has even stricter qualifications than the Big 12 did.

I didn't expect to win all of our games this year, but I did expect us to beat UCLA. We had already beaten Wisconsin once this season, so I didn't expect the beatdown we sustained in the B1G Championship. I want to be optimistic for next season, but I'm troubled by the amount of players that have to be replaced. I'm not sure if I buy into our talent riding the pine this year. Our record will more than likely look pretty decent next year, but I'm not sure we'll do much better against the upper tier teams.

Count me as impressed with the board's overall response as well. I took a look at the free Rivals board and was sick to my stomach at the pathetic display of "fan"dom being displayed over there. Reinforced in a very big way the reasons I always come here first.

Gotta say, I'm a little worried that giving up 45 points and 600 yards doesn't even warrant a message board meltdown anymore. Atrocious defensive performances have apparently become that routine.

At this point in the season there is no reason for a meltdown because we all know the team's limitations on the defensive side of the football. The reality is that two long plays for Georgia accounted for 170 yards of offense. Green was in position to make a play on the first and the second was simply a perfect play call by Georgia to counter our D. I like the fact that Bo admitted he made a mistake in the way he used RS's. Here's hoping those guys make an impact next year!

Good first post. You're right we do know the limitations of the D. There's nothing new to add that hasn't already been said.
