Huskers.com press release

The Red team will be led by quarterbacks Tommy Armstrong Jr., Johnny Stanton and Zach Darlington. Running backs on the Red include Adam Taylor, Graham Nabity and Terrell Newby, along with receivers De'Mornay Pierson-El and Jordan Westerkamp.

On defense, the Red team will include returning defensive starters Maliek Collins, Vincent Valentine and Greg McMullen up front.

The White squad will be led by quarterbacks Tyson Broekemeier, A.J. Bush and Ryker Fyfe. Imani Cross and Mikale Wilbon headline the White backfield, while the defense will feature a strong secondary group including Joshual Kalu, Chris Jones, LeRoy Alexander and Kieron Williams.

It appears to me that more first string linemen on both sides of the ball are on the red team. I think it's important on the line to have as many of (what you think will be) the first string playing together. I just wish it was going to be first string O line against first string D line.

It will be interesting to see how that middle OL of the White Team holds up against the middle DL of the Red Team.

I am assuming we will see:

Farmer [G]---Johnson/Hannon [C]---Foster [G] vs Valentine [DT]---Collins [DT]

My prediction, Valentine and Collins will see the White Team's backfield often.

I'm glad they are returning to a game format, but I'm disappointed it's mostly 1s vs backups, reminds me of the Callahan spring games, where it was 1's vs backups so the games were never that competitive more about putting a dominant show on for visiting recruits.

2007: Red 38, White 0
2006: Red 35, White 7
2005: White 42, Red 14
2004: Red 35, White 6

I know what you are saying. On the other hand, these guys are still relatively new to these schemes and coaches. The 1's have probably received a little more attention and reps. If anything, (both groups) get a chance to hit, tackle, cover, run some plays and enjoy playing some football. Hopefully they achieve that and can come out of it healthy. Should be a fun day.

My predicted two-deep for the RED and WHITE DEFENSE. The secondary is full of potential starters on both teams, but the DL and LB favor the RED.

RED TEAM DEFENSE

DE: Gangwish, Dzuris

DT: Valentine, Rath

DT: Collins, Arneson

DE: McMullen, Stoltenberg

Buck: Rose-Ivey, Poppen

Mike: Banderas, Rose-Ivey

Will: M Newby, ??? Simpson

CB: Boaz (Jackson injured)

S: Gerry, Cockrell

S: A Williams

CB: Mosley, Lee

Nick: Cockrell

WHITE TEAM DEFENSE

DE: Freedom, King

DT: Maurice, ??? Johns

DT: Williams, Newell

DE: Keels, Jarzynka

Buck: Young

Mike: Gifford

Will: ??? Weber, Connely (Santos injured)

CB: Jones, Anderson

S: Alexander

S: K Williams

CB: Kalu, Anderson

Nick: Kalu

Gaskins & Stephens had Sean Callahan on about an hour ago talking about the Spring Game format, why it is what it is, and why it's not going to be even teams duking it out. Sean says the biggest priority coming out of the game is to have the fans feel good about the team through the summer, leading up to the season.

They'll put the podcast up in a little while. LINK to podcast page.

Sean also mentioned that Harrison Beck faked a hamstring injury so Carriker wouldn't tackle him. Never heard that story.
