Steve Edlefsen, the 26-year-old right-hander recalled Sunday from Triple-A Phoenix as closer Brian Wilson went on the disabled list, gives San Francisco's bullpen a slightly different look.
Edlefsen throws from a low three-quarter arm slot -- not quite sidearm, but suggestive of that. Edlefsen explained that he felt natural employing this motion while playing shortstop at Barton County (Kan.) Community College and the University of Nebraska. In fact, Boston selected Edlefsen as an infielder in the 41st round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft. He didn't pitch full-time until the Giants drafted him in the 16th round in 2007.
