Surround Sound Receiver

So I ended up getting an LG tv, and my older Samsung receiver/surround sound is not compatible.

Who has the answers to these questions? Do I just get a new receiver and hook up the old speakers to it?

why isn't it compatible.

No clue. I can't get it to work anyways? Possibly something to do with ARC?

I obviously need some help.

I would think that if the Tv output and Reciever input were the same it would work.
