The Broken Quotes

I've confirmed that the broken quotes posts are happening because the IP.Board Mobile skin doesn't stop you from posting if you've past the quote limit.

There's an option that disables quote embedding period -- when you quote a post, only the immediate quote and not any embedded quotes are included in the post. This works for Mobile as well. However there's no option to adjust the quote depth.

Another possibility is removing the quote limit, but instead hiding layers of quotes that are too deep. They would appear in the post box, but not in the actual post. We actually did this before, but it seemed to confuse people, so I removed it. Perhaps if it only started with the 5th level of embedded quotes, it wouldn't be as bad?

 
I like the idea of it starting at the 5th level. If someone is quoting that many posts, it will help discourage the practice while not "breaking" the quoting and making a mess of the post.

 
Forgot to mention, I did this. So now the quote limit is 15 but quote-within-quote-within-quote-within-quote-within-quotes and further levels will be hidden from view.

The broken posts that we've seen recently should now be fixed by editing and clicking 'save changes' without making any changes.

 
Oh, dear. The mobile skin uses a different stylesheet. I guess I better add that in for the mobile as well.

I mean, what *should* happen is IPB should just catch the extra quote tags and not allow them like it's supposed to. But it wasn't doing that on mobile to begin with, just resulting in broken posts.
