The Path Toward American Authoritarianism

An ignoramus, with visions of grandeur combined with having the strings of power is a very, very toxic mix.  The path to authoritarianism starts with a person who has a pathologically narcissistic view of self with dreams of greatness and the power to pull it off.  Trump fits the bill.

Donald Trump has made a bold claim about his popularity, implying that at one point he was adored more than George Washington and Abraham Lincoln combined - two of the most highly-regarded Presidents in US history.

Trump has had several wild interview moments over the past 48 hours, most recently giving his VP JD Vance a "vote of no confidence", as some online have viewed it.

In that same interview, Trump made a bold claim about his popularity during his first term as US President. He said that unnamed experts told him that even a ticket consisting of Washington and Lincoln combined could not have beaten him.

He said: "The day before I heard the word 'covid' or 'pandemic,' I had a meeting with political people and pollsters and they said, 'Sir, if George Washington and Abraham Lincoln got together and ran as president and VP, they couldn't beat you.'"

He continued: "It was so good. You know that? I was the best ever. The best we've ever had. Everyone was coming together. Liberal people, people that normally wouldn't speak with me, were coming together.

"Then we had the pandemic, and I was very proud to have handed over the country with the stock market higher than it was previous to the pandemic. We did a good job, but it was a terrible thing."

I think this applies to my post above.  Any honest person would see that Donald Trump, aka The Felon, has all of these traits which makes for the most toxic mix any 'leader' can have.

Authoritarians see themselves as above the law.  All for the good of the country for only the authoritarian can save the country ;)

It helps when you have a compliant Supreme Court and their horrendous Immunity ruling.  It gives trump, aka the Felon, the 'right' to do as he pleases.  Add the enablers in the House and Senate and we got a very toxic mix to go with delusional Trump.

Below, trump now likens himself to be more than Washington, more than Lincoln but it brings up his inner Napolean and quotes Napolean below.  Basically suggesting he is above the law, for he is the delusional savior of our country.

Trump - the New Napolean

The quote from a president with his own imperial ambitions appeared to come from the 1970 film Waterloo, in which Steiger’s Napoleon states that he “did not ‘usurp’ the crown.”

“I found it in the gutter, and I picked it up with my sword, and it was the people … who put it on my head,” he says. “He who saves a nation violates no law.”

Within his first month in office, Trump’s allies have baselessly argued Trump’s supreme authority as president, immune from checks and balances, as his executive orders and Musk’s access to the levers of government face an avalanche of lawsuits and restraining orders.

Musk and other members of the Trump administration have smeared the judges who have ruled against them as “corrupt” and “evil” and threatened to impeach and remove them from the bench.

The world’s wealthiest man and his allies have repeated false and inflated claims about how the three branches of government operate, and how a system of checks and balances is designed to prevent the presidency from accumulating supreme authority.

Their comments are raising alarms among constitutional scholars and legal analysts for an impending constitutional crisis — which the White House blames on the judges, not the president’s spurious legal actions and the administration’s baseless insistence that he should not be subject to checks and balances in the courts.
