The Proliferation of Non-IP Address IP Addresses

It can't be a coincidence that the sudden appears of users that have a set of characters completely different from a normal IP address showing up where the IP address used for a post would usually show up are generally b!^@hers and have the feel of formerly-banned members....

Of course ... now that I'm looking for them more there are a few long-time members who also have those showing up as well.

Still seems odd.

Not sure if this is along the lines of what you're talking about, but when I banned @The_Ad_Guy, I was really thrown off by his IP activity which registered to 2600:1012:b14d:47b1:2199:18ce:ffc2:249e.

Any idea who the newer users are that are going around and defecating nonsense? Been awhile since we had a good pitchfork manhunt.

Some new-ish members who have that showing up and have drawn my attention:

SFW

UniversalMartin

Slow yer Roll

bhunt7

jassman24

Big Red Viking

Not that all those accounts are causing problems.  I just looked through a couple threads where there has been some doom-and-gloom and found those showing the odd IP address.  And they aren't the only ones with the odd IP addresses - there are some long-time posters with those showing up as well.

But I'd say most of the above list tends to be on the negative side except for bhunt7 (I don't really remember one way or the other on that).

It just got me wondering if they are using something to mask their IP address to try to avoid being discovered as a former member.  Maybe I'm just too paranoid.
