The Way Too Early 2028 Election

Hey @knapplc  I DID NOT START THIS THREAD!!!  ;)

Thank-you @Guy Chamberlin for taking the pressure :madash off of me.  I can ignore any anxious thoughts :madash (darn ADHD pressure) to start it prematurely as I did the 2024 thread.

I started the Way to Early 2024 thread - which evolved into the 640+  page it is now.  We'll see if this thread reaches 700 pages.

I actually hope not as that would mean it was a calmer election cycle (but that is probably doubtful   and there will probably be too much of this :boxosoap ).

I can't imagine what 2028 will look like after another 4 years of trumpism.
Just depends on how much of their agenda they plan on enacting. If Trump pushes for tariffs and mass deportations, these will prove to be extremely unpopular and the Republican Party will suffer massive mid-term losses and will lose in 2028.

That being said, the analysis of the 2028 election should be this: DEMOCRATS ARE LUCKY. You heard that right. We are lucky. Democrats have a problem in their politics: namely that the culture war doesn't favor them, and frankly DEMOCRATS TOOK A LOT OF STUPID POSITIONS ON ISSUES. I'm sorry, but you can't build a party that allows for biological men to play women's sports or appeal to white women who's outlook is that the patriarchy is crushing them, or offer student loan forgiveness to Art majors and look black male/white working class voters in the eye and expect to win elections. Democrats have the opportunity to shun these elements of the party and rebuild something that works a lot better.

DEMOCRATS ARE FORTUNATE that they did not suffer a defeat similar to 1980. Because, lets be honest: if Nikki Haley/Mitt Romney were the candidate, Republicans inflict a bloodbath on Democrats that redefine politics similar to the one that let them take power for 12 years in 1980. The MAGA movement produced Senate candidates like Herschel Walker, Blake Masters and Kari Lake (twice); and other down ballot candidates like Robinson (the black Nazi), and frankly, dozens of House candidates that were just plain terrible. Republicans should be holding a massive Senate lead that is a near super majority had they played their cards right in 2020, 2022 and 2024. But because MAGA cannot be replicated outside of Trump, they fumbled it.

This means that DEMOCRATS CAN DO MUCH NEEDED SOUL SEARCHING. They have the opportunity to reinvent themselves by shunning mind numbingly stupid culture war positions cooked up in the Sociology department of UCLA and instead they can come out with some common sense ideas that will be popular, and they have this opportunity while only being down a few votes in the house and - despite losing all 7 swing states - they will only end up losing one Senate election there.

Sooooo much common sense here.

Which probably means super D's will not be okay with it.

How do Democrats avoid the opinions of a few being megaphone'd? The internet makes it hard. E.g. I don't feel like anyone important really thinks trans women in women's sports is a thing to talk about or want to happen.

Unfortunately, it means some internal struggle. You can expect candidates to put on some flannel and go to a midwest state and do a few interviews that go something like:

"Look, we can't be the party of word policing and cancel culture anymore. You can simultaneously be the party of inclusion but not contradict yourself by pouncing on others for a perceived 'Democratic Foul' and frothing at the mouth to cancel them. Stop saying that America is bad. America is pretty amazing; we should expand fracking not because it only helps climate change, but because we can export it to European allies who need energy after their own massive liberal policy failures. We're going to embrace an abundancy agenda. We're going to build houses unlike the morons in charge of California. We're going to pay high wages. We're going to increase trade, not limit it... we're going to increase enforcement of laws so citizens of great American cities can go on the subway without a crazy guy yelling at them" etc.

You basically take a public stance on a multitude of issues that is both anti-woke and pro America, and pro worker. Because, lets be honest, nobody is going to call out that person for not towing the party positions on wokeness after the beat down that happened on Tuesday.
