Thoughts on this account?

He's not really doing anything wrong.  But his act wasn't all that funny to start with and is getting pretty tired.  He's not really contributing anything.  And now it looks like cheese fries are setting in.

This is primarily for documentation purposes in relations to the COVID-19 thread in the Lounge.

- I've publicly asked him to stop sharing content from other sources without a link.

- He interjected a comment about President Trump and how the reaction to the virus is an attempt to hurt is re-election chances. I removed this because it did not belong here and belongs in P&R.

- He finished one of his more recent posts in that thread by saying "The King of Huskerboard has spoken!" I don't think he's trolling with his opinions, but I also think that statement is suggestive of the fact that he's not necessarily trying to have a productive conversation in there.

What I have been doing on HuskerMax is giving 14 day "quarantines" mostly for personal attacks in our politics forum and announced each one on the offending thread. Three so far. It set a tone for the rest of the board. The rest of the forums are pretty self moderating.

Feel free to quarantine when necessary.

I don't particularly care for his eccentricities.  He is pretty annoying.

But I guess I'm not really seeing the "misinformation" he is said to have posted.  People have labeled it that.  But that doesn't make it true.

I agree. I think the perceived 'problem' with his posts is that they appear to downplay the severity of the virus. This has caused people like knapplc to claim he's spreading misinformation, that he's acting dangerously, that it 'shouldn't be allowed to continue on the board,' etc.

I think knapplc is overreacting.

I saw a video this weekend of a college student trying to get police officers to remove someone from a campus gathering area because that person was sharing offensive opinions. The cops basically said 'just because you don't like what he has to say doesn't mean he doesn't have a right to say it. That's free speech. We're struggling to see what law he is breaking here.'

That's essentially how I feel about this situation.

Update:

I explicitly asked posters in The Lounge's COVID-19 THREAD to keep political news/commentary out of it. I even quoted Thurston's post (so I know he saw the notification). He shared a terrible take about 9/11 and the Holocaust and followed it up with a comment about 'progs' i.e. progressives. The last bit there explicitly went against what I asked so I've suspended him for another 30 days.

His 'master' comment also really, really sparked my ire.

Anyways, I'm open for discussion if we think its worth a permaban. He was already suspended once for 30 days so another 30-day suspension doesn't feel like it'll do much in the end.
