trolling and stuff like it

Eric the Red

Team HuskerBoard
I have a question about this. Rick brought up member posting "trash talk"... and rightfully so under our current message board trend. That's not the thing I want to talk about because he did nothing wrong. But why when someone talks bad about Nebraska we all of a sudden want to ban immidiately ... this happens on most sites so it's nothing against anything anyone has done.

Here is this guys quote: Boomer If the Big 12 is such a lousy league why didn't Nebraska win it every year? Or more than once for that matter. Have fun in the middle of the pack in the big ten, looks like the Tickey City bowl for you next year!

Husker fans are just as big of bitches as any other team out there if not more. Hey, I'm one of them.

My pov is that it just makes many of the members get all fired up and talk crap back at that person. Doesn't really look too good for our members to break the rules we should be enforcing by not allowing name calling, etc. Trolling is just that.

Now if you, as admin want to foster that type of activity on the board to draw in more views; I don't mind not going after those people but it could just escalate beyond what would be acceptable. imo

It's your world boss, I'm just here for the ride :D

I only b!^@h a lot when I'm at home safely in front of the TV where I am king; don't want any of you youngsters kickin' this poor old man's a$$ :)

IMO he's baiting our members into an argument, that's trolling IMO. Plus don't talk sh#t about Nebraska or I'll get bent out of shape and break your fooking knee caps! j/k :)

Agree with BRI. I see zero merit in allowing a person to post whose only goal is to piss off our members. If we allow these guys to piss in the pool we're going to lose good members who don't want to post in a place overrun by trolls.

There's a difference between talking smack and trolling. Maybe we should vote on whether to ban a guy or not from now on? The more input the better, although to be fair there's always at least two people involved in the decision - the Mod who puts them on notice and the Admin who actually bans them.

I want to do whatever is going to make HuskerBoard the most comfortable for our members, combined with whatever is going to attract new members.

The post in question is walking a fine line between friendly smack talk and trolling. I have heard similar comments from people who I consider to be friends, who happen to like other teams. I would probably call it smack talk unless things got worse, which they usually do here. We have to expect these kind of comments from other fans, considering how our team has done over the past decade or so, and try to roll with the punches and keep the smack talk clean, using the shed when necessary. If given enough posts, anyone clearly here to troll should easily be identified.
