Vegan vs. Meat eaters

Witnessed my first walking protest of vegans against the unethical treatment of food animals yesterday. It was at a nearby open shopping mall in SoCal. They were walking throughout the center carrying signs with different stages of butchering, and other conditions of some animals. I know they "steered" clear of the Bass Pro Shop on the east side of the complex. Probably some gun related mystique involved. Many of the protesters were shouting as loud as they could. I did not realize they could hear a 60 yr old man with COPD over their hubbub. Several of the younger members took umbrage of my stance when I voiced opposition to their opinions. They were not impressed by my witty repartee. My old stand bys "My food eats your food" or "killing a plant is the same as killing a 1200 lb. Hereford". Cooler heads prevailed and they continued on their way.

Don't know why my wife hit me on the head though.

Why is it when 30-40 people start exercising their right to express their opinions very loudly they don't want to hear disparaging remarks??? Not like it was a public venue since it occurred on privately owned property. And I have doubts as to whether the mall owners would want to anger many of the "tenant" restaurants that do offer meatage on their menus.

Probably enjoyed the time more than paying 30$ to see a movie. Then we went and ate Vampire tacos at The Yardhouse. Ain't no protesters gonna keep me from my bacon.

Our ancestors didn't risk their lives making homemade tools and chasing the mighty mastadon so I could spent my life eating a carrot. Enough said.

 
Ha ha! Way to represent the carnivores among us! But isn't this sort of thing routine out on the left coast?

I have always said I have no problem with someone wanting to be vegetarian or vegan if it is based on facts and reality. The problem is, these groups spread some of the most ridiculous falsehoods about livestock food production. It really is amazing that some people believe their drivel.

 
The girl friend of a co-worker was sent a notice to trim back some bushes that had grown and blocked the sidewalk. While he was cutting back the limbs she started crying because he was hurting the plants. And she is a carnivore. Total disconnect

 
I was a serious vegan for about 17 years, starting back in '83 or so. Now am 55, have had zero health issues along the way, and still have the physique of a 20-30 something--i.e., spring chicken. If I keep going like this I could get up past the century mark prolly fairly easily, if the apocalypse doesn't some first. Am actually kind of wondering what the heck to do for another 40+ yrs or so--kinda bored.

Have mixed beef, pork, chicken, fish back into my diet, but in moderation. Avoid junk, fast food, and sodas like the plaque. Dairy isn't the greatest either, especially cow's milk, pretty bad stuff.

Anyway, good nutrition is the best medicine, doesn't mean you can't get sick, but is certainly very preventative.

See more small low impact, 'free range'(grass fed), beef farms out here in NY state, seems to be working pretty well. have seen some pork farms like that too. 'Organic' and such. Harder for city folk to access, I s'pose.
