Warning notification issue

knapplc claims he did not receive any kind of notification or email from the board about the warning he received in the last week. He noticed it organically. This would seem to jive with the situation with @Born N Bled Red. I gave Born a warning Sunday night - he continued the behavior he received a warning for on Monday, so I suspended him for a week. Now, I'm thinking it may not have been fair to issue a suspension to Born if he didn't receive any type of notice.

We can't in good faith expect people to curb inappropriate behavior if they're not getting a notification for it. I rarely look at my account profile page.

Side note: knapplc has asked me if he can continue the Rusty/Redux conversation in the Shed. Accusing people of being a sock in the Shed doesn't bother me much personally, I just don't like it in the main parts of the board. Any different opinions?

I think it will probably have to be allowed in the Shed, though the tirade he went on awhile ago was pretty over-the-top, imo, even though it was in the Shed.

I'm not sure what to think of the notification issue.  I'll have to do some checking.

 
It appears that the warning notification is user-specific and can be turned on/off in their profile settings.  Not sure if it got turned off for knapp or what.

 
Hmm. Do you know where it's located in the settings, Mav?

Seems a bit strange that someone would knowingly adjust that in their settings. Wondering what my settings says and if one of the recent board updates manipulated something?

 
Yeah, it seems odd to me as well.  I was going to do some testing last night but didn't get to it.

To view/change the setting you go into the Account Settings page.  On the right side there is an Other Settings box and one of the options is Notification Settings.

 
I'm going to ask knapp if he has changed any of those settings.

Edit -  I asked him if a) he had changed any settings or b) if he had any settings off/unchecked that would prevent him from receiving them.

He said he hadn't changed anything in years and also provided the below:

I just checked my Settings. There isn't anything on there preventing me from receiving notifications about Warnings that I can see.

I wonder if it has anything to do with me being a Member2? That's all I can think of.

My worry is that if I had said something similar to what Mavric gave me a warning for, he could have considered that me flouting the warning, and suspend or ban me. When the reality is if I hadn't happened to glance at my warning section on Desktop I wouldn't have known.

So, I finally got around to doing some checking.  I read the setting wrong before.  The option I have is to see warnings issued by other Mods, not warnings issued to me.  And I tried sending a warning to an abandoned account and then checking on that account and it didn't get a notification of the warning.

I'm trying to do some looking on the Invision site to see if that is a known issue but I haven't seen anything yet.  Perhaps for now we should send an email to the user when they get a warning.
