Where do you stand?

Where do you stand in regards to our staff?

  • Hate it. Regardless of this year I want them gone ASAP!

  • Not a fan of them. I feel they are leading us down a bad road but time will tell.

I think it would be helpful to know where posters stand in regards towards our staff. This is a way of getting a better understanding where we all think the direction of the program is headed.

As it stands, "Like 'em."

They are a refreshing bunch, but until on field results match off field results I'm hesitant to become a fan boy of the staff. I think they have all the right things going for them, my caution comes from wondering whether they'll actually do the things in season/games that they say they'll do during offseason. Last year was teased with "looking at using the QB run game" and that wasn't used as much until UCLA. This year we are teased with running the ball and becoming a top 3 rushing team in the B1G. Let's see how committed they are to making that come true.

Overall, I like Riley, but I think he has the coach speak down pat.

 
I guess I am in the "like them" bucket. I love what they have done in recruiting (embracing social media, not making excuses for getting kids on campus, etc).

But it all comes down to Ws and those need to impove if they are going to be here for the long haul.

 
I'm in the like them category too. I expected quicker results, but they started clicking by the end of last season. And I really enjoy their recruiting efforts. I think they can really get Nebraska back into Conference Title discussion on a yearly basis.

 
A year ago I think they were still adjusting to all the tools at their disposal plus getting to know 120 kids personally and ability wise. Most of the kids bought in to the new system and though I really think all the kids liked the new staff there was a learning curve they didn't grasp early and with the close losses got frustrated by mid season. It seemed the loss to Purdue made them buy in even more and give 100%. The coaches didn't go ballistic on the kids and continued to encourage. The win over Mich St solidified the team and except for Iowa it carried through into the bowl game. The coaches have done well in the off season in recruiting and I have no doubt they are game planning and watching film on this years opponents. Good things will happen and I expect these kids will run through a brick wall for the coaches this year. What that translates to as far as W/L is hard to say. Karma will have to smile this year. I'll be watching every game either in the stadium or on tv. GBR!

Agree with your whole post except for the above line. To be fair to the staff, the run game they did with TA was way more than anything that they did at OSU.

Its tough to look at QB rushing stats since they factor in sacks/scrambles, but looking at a few different places I found:

Tommy in 2015

98 rushes

12 sacks (14 total for the year minus 2 in the Purdue game)

86 "actual" rushes (some were scrambles off of pass plays)

7.2/game

Mannion in 2014

48 rushes

36 sacks

12 "actual" rushes (some were scrambles off of pass plays)

1.0/game

Maybe there is a better analysis of this somewhere, but you would have to look at the individual plays.

 
I'd be more interested to see how everyone's attitude has changed since Riley was hired. I am in the "like them" camp now, but I was probably indifferent when I heard he was hired. It doesn't seem like I am the only one who feels this way, which is pretty amazing after a losing season. I don't think recruiting is the only reason for this either. He just brings an optimism and inclusive feel that we haven't had in a long time.

 
I didn't think I quite fit in any of the categories. I'm not "indifferent" (though that's what I picked) but I thought the second part about if they win I'll be fine with them fit where I'm at. Pretty mixed on them overall.

I have big questions about our coordinators. I don't think Banker's defense will work consistently over the long haul. I don't necessarily dislike Langs but I don't think he's a real good fit here.

I don't mind Riley. He's a nice guy and probably a good boss but I'm not sure he will really take us anywhere.

I really like Williams, Bray and Parrella. I think Cav is good but maybe not great.

I don't think Stewart and Davis are anything special.

Read is probably OK but I don't think he's doing nearly enough to using a spot for a guy who only does special teams and doesn't recruit much.

I'm kinda the same as you. I like the social media stuff, the recruiting buzz, etc. I'm still not sold on the in-game stuff (play calling, defense, letting Bruce Read have that sh**ty mustache)

Completely agree with this. Only thing I would add is I want to see better in game management to "on field" results.
