woodshed passwords via email

Anyone else think it would be better to have people PM mods for passwords rather than email? Yea, they'd have to have an account to access the shed anyway, but sometimes it's not obvious who the email is from as far as what account they have on HB.

 
If that guy you emailed today had not put his screen name down I wouldn't have known who he/she was. Yeah sounds ok to me.

 
I agree with you - the thing with that is that some people dont know what "PM" or IM means. but everyone that has gotten this far knows what an email is. so if we dont list an addy I think many would be confused. If they dont give their membername in the request, just let it go until myself, eric or joe can look them up in the control panel, and then we'll pm them. sound ok?

 
Another consideration - although it's not much of one for us out-of-staters - is that unlikely as it may sound, there are some sick individuals out there that might use the email as a way to get information about someone for personal reasons. Too often our emails reveal a bit too much about us that can lead someone to more information we may not want them to have.

 
Very true. which is what PMs would avoid, good point guys. so feel free to just ignore the requests with no username, or other emails that go to the mods@ addy.

Good idea.

Email would be OK if we knew their name and were able to check that the address matches the name they supplied. Just thought this might be a procedure issue that could be exploited at some point by HPH-like people.
