WR Jonah Wilson -> Texas A&M

Word is he is N and will be in Lincoln to start classes next week.

However, we are apparently at the 85-scholarship limit so he will technically be a walk-on this semester until the new rules take effect.  So that's why there hasn't been a formal announcement.

I'm confused.  I thought the 105 limit was already in place.

I don't know that anyone actually knows when it goes into effect other than "not yet".  The thinking seems to be the start of fall camp but possibly not even until the week of the first game.
Well, that's pretty stupid.  Put the dang rule in and make programs be at the 105 by fall camp.  That way, they can have 105 scholarship players for spring ball.

That is the intent, but the 105 is in the house settlement that hasn’t been fully ratified yet. I believe they are looking at a June/July timeframe for the settlement to get fully approved and 105 would go into effect then. Analysts keep saying on the radio that the 105 limit only has to be reached by game 1 this year. Not sure if that will be annual thing where teams can go beyond 105 after the end of each season as long as they back down by game 1 again or not.

That's with the settlement.

They can set the limit at 105 right now if they wanted to.  Then, if they need to modify it after July, then do so.  Right now, every program is working as though the 105 is in place right now as far as roster management.  So, why not just have the rule there and then see how it falls out?

One reason to not have it in place right now is most teams - Nebraska more than most - are going to have a lot of cuts to get down to 105.  Not having it in effect now gives you spring practices to figure out how you're going to handle that.  And see who leaves after spring on their own to make some of the decisions easier.

You can have the rule in place with the stipulation that everyone has to be at 105 by the first game.  I believe that's basically how the 85 rule has worked, isn't it?  We always knew we had to be at 85 by fall camp. But, there have been years where we were actually over that until then.

Yes, that's the situation now.

You can count half of the db room going bye bye after the spring.
