JP Isn't Happy

Wow!

I finally watched that clip after reading all of the posts, and I'm kinda disappointed. If people are getting worked up over that, and calling it "lashing out", how do they stomach to actually watch a football game.

Football is intense and emotional. Generally coaches, at least good coaches, share these traits.

Sack up! It's GAMEDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, that is not true. TO did NOT share these traits and he was one of the best. At least not when talking to the media.

You are right, Osborne is a special person. You said yourself, one of the best (coaching & dealing with people). The same could be said for Tony Dungy and other good coaches. This is why I chose the word "generally". I nowhere compared our current coaches to Tom Osborne and I don't ever plan to.

However, for every Osborne and Dungy there are two or three Parcells, Pelini's, Saban's, Harbaugh's, Les Mile's, Mike Gundy's, and the list goes on. Nebraska was BLESSED with one of the greatest coaches and great person in Osborne. No one denies that. People differ with the question, "should we hold Pelini (and staff) to the same social standards as Osborne?"

I wish we had another Osborne, I truly do. But so does USC, LSU, Florida, Texas, Oregon, Alabama, and every other team in the country. But you know what, they won't find one. You know why, because there is only ONE Tom Osborne.

I'm pretty sure LSU, Bama and Oregon are just fine with who they have, not sure those teams want to wait around 22 years for results, well, other than Oregon maybe, but now that they have tasted success they are just fine with their head coach.

Seriously?....are you serious? :P

So when Chip Kelly, Saban, and Miles are done with their careers, you will believe they are better coaches AND people than Osborne. I think Saban will be a better coach as far as titles and such, but back to my original post he has an INTENSE edge about him.

My point is, Tom Osborne created an environment where a soft-spoken, gentle coach (and if you ask some people, Tom wasn't always soft and gentle) is the standard and he/she is expected to win championships year in and year out. I don't think a large portion of the fan base is capable of supporting a coach who "hurts their feelings" by yelling at someone they don't even know. Pelini and his staff are intense; if you engage them in Q&A, be prepared for intense responses. How have people not learned this yet?

Back to the link, if I had the guts to ask the question this guy did, I would have the gut to take whatever answer I might get.

JP said what you would hope to here him say, about the rest of the season goals. He was embarrassed for the way the defense played, I hope he was also embarrassed by the way he coached them, last week. I have read that they knew the defense they put out there to start the season was slow. They know their scheme has problems with mobile q/b's. then why don't they dumb it done a little to get the speed players on the field, for some game time experience. So if things go south today, will the coaches say, see I told you they weren't ready. If they aren't red shirting, why not get them some playing time. If the last couple of years showed us anything, that if you screw up a little you don't get much playing time. Saw that with Moore's, false start last year and his starting was gone. The whole offensive line could have been out, if that was the criteria, for last year.

Have to agree with CN RED, L David wasn't always where Bo thought he was supposed to be, but he did have the speed and instinct to get there at the end of the play. Would like to see if there are any more of him wasting time sitting on the bench, because they can't get the "scheme" down to perfection. What I've seen so far, is not many of them have.

GBR!!!

The fact they are intense is a fact that is... in a sense, besides the point. The fact the that the staff is in over their heads, and not getting the job done and are frustrated and defensive because of this... that is more the point. Intense, if manifest properly is fine. Intense... angered, frustrated, bitter, accusatory and defensive... that is different. That is, I think what we are seeing. A bad sort of intense rather than a good sort of intense.

No it is exactly the point. The thread title: "JP Isn't Happy" and the posts go on to defend or oppose if the intensity of Pap is warranted. I never claimed that last week was a great performance, or the Huskers are world beaters this year. I'm simply saying, if intense people are forced into being sissies, they will have even more problems. Maybe fans should let these guys coach instead of making them write politically correct speaches that even Romney and Obama can't master...

Now we're bichin because our Defensive Coordinator is......defensive????? What do people expect? You tell a coach they lowered their standards, the coach disagrees. The coaching staff was "attacked" by a fan, not the other way around.

As FriendlyLurker, and Robsker reminded us, "he stuck up for his team"....nuf said.

I don't give two craps what a guys says or what a coach does at a breakfast. Put a defense on the field that can make a tackle or get out of town. Its that simple. This staff is out of excuses. By the way.....go recruit some studs....you need them.

What re-evaluated goals should we set? Goals that don't involve winning every remaining game on the schedule? C'mon!

You always, always, always prepare for each week and prepare to beat the opponent you are playing, regardless of what happened at any time before. I can't think of a more admirable way to go about it.
THAT is how you should prepare, but to tell guys the NC is still on the table is holding on to false hope.
It's more like the fan was asking about that and JP addressed the concern.

Yes, we should hold him to the same social standards. Oh, and I didn't say anything about you comparing anyone. You said " Generally coaches, at least good coaches, share these traits." and I said that is not true. I named TO as an example of one who doesn't hold those traits.

Also, you mix NFL coaches with college coaches, and you can't, different style of play, different situations with players. It has been shown good NFL coaches don't always make good college coaches..

Seems like JP got upset at one statement that any reasonable fan or media member would make: A team from a mediocre conference cannot afford to lose a game and consider itself in the national title picture. Doesn't mean the team shouldn't go out and win every game. It just means it's extremely unlikely for Nebraska to get into the BCS title game even if they did go 12-1 (which of course they almost surely won't). JP brings up two examples from the SEC, well, he's making a pretty crazy leap from the 2007 and 2011 SEC to the 2012 Big Ten.

Of course it's great that he has passion, but I didn't see any good reason to use that tone with some random fan/booster/media member. Just say we want to win the rest of them and see where it takes us. Next question.
