Spam

If Chad would just stop signing up to all of those fetish sites using huskerboards email address half the problem would be solved.

There are a few reasons its been worse lately:

1) All of the "ban settings" were removed during the xfer. including IP addrss, email domains etc.

fortunatley this stuff isnt lost - I just need to recover it and repopulate. this should help.

2) In the past I would receive an email notification when someone would register, so I could screen obvious spam accounts and be proactive. I was supsending 5+ a week for several months even before they could validate their acct. This notification has been restored.

3) I also just added a "random image verifcation" step to registration. you know the alpha-numeric sh#t that people have to type into a box. prevents auto-bot registratoins. this should also help.

and to answer your ques, most of the spam accts are BS domains from overeas.,sh#t like GERMANSHYSTERFILM@NAZIPORN.BJ etc. so putting a ban on hotmail/yahoo wouldnt help much.

outside of those things I dont have any other ideas for combatting it any better. but if you guys can think of some, please let me know.

That's cool. Make sense. The image verification thing should stop the bots anyway.

Is a confirmation email required still? New users get an email that they have to click on a link to activate the account?

Well, there's using admin@huskerboard.com to sign up to all the fetish sites too, that could cause some spam, I'm guessing, I would know anything about that myself, but I've heard that generates spam...
