I don't get this hate. Now before i get the bye bye big xii is Hedley, which I'm not (MODS), what post spawned this intense hatred? Hedley reminds me of a more comical skersfan. I disagree with him, and his repetitive bo diatribe is tiresome, but he sometimes makes valid points.
Hedley just has different opinions. So be it. I disagree, but don't hate.
That so? I guess I just don't see it--could be because I'm already in my head thinking that Hedley's posts aren't worth reading.
I too was picturing a 50-60 year old scrooge. Man, to be that set in your ways, and only 24. Talking in absolutes isn't something I see many 24 year olds doing.
Glad you pick all of this up in my posts. I am actually very opinionated and very passionate about many things in life. Husker football returning to elite status is one of those things. I refuse to believe we have top 10 caliber assistants on our staff. I refuse to believe Pelini is putting maximum effort into recruiting 365 days a year. I demand more from NU. I set my standard at always finishing in the top 20 and more years than not top 10-12. I expect us to win championships period.
When others feel these things are unrealistic etc I get passionate and defensive about it. That is just how I operate. I hope you realize that I as well as all of you want what I feel is best for NU just like you feel you want what is best for NU.
I don't consider what I state as absolutes. I am basing things off of what I have seen unfold in the last 5 seasons and where we are currently at in terms of national relevance. These conclusions etc that I have reached I feel are things that are broken and will continue until things change. Whether that is Bo maturing and/or hiring a better staff or Bo not being at NU. Neither is of difference to me. As long as NU breaks through the wall we are stuck at I will be happy. I bet you will be too.
If my post are not of your interest and you don't wish to read them feel free to ignore me. I would completely understand.
You weren't even old enough to really remember how special we were in the 90s so you can give all the opinions you want about what Nebraska needs to do to get "back" but really you have no life experience to base them off of. You can watch film, and read about the 90s, but I was between the ages of 5-12 before, and I didn't truly and completely start understanding Nebraska football until about the high side of that age range and after. It's really hard to explain what it was really like back then when you were living it and ingrained into it. I understand you wanting Nebraska football to get back to relevancy and to be in contention year in and year out, but for you to talk about them "returning" to elite status you really can't comprehend IMO. Sorry, but age issues have limits with life experiences.
Were we elite?
Are we elite now?
Ask yourself those questions. We were once nationally relevant and other teams dreaded playing us because they would be in pain for two weeks. I don't need to know every little thing about NUs past to see that we are currently not relevant on the national stage in college football.
We will NEVER be as good as we were in the 90's I have said that many times on this board. I don't expect us to be that good. However we have the resources and support to be a consistent top 10-12 finisher and should never find ourselves outside the top 20 at the end of a season.
In regards to the 90's that is when I started my husker fandom. Watching games with my family and learning about the game of football. I remember "the run" just like it was yesterday. I remember where I was sitting on the couch at my grandparents house. I remember how excited I was as a kid jumping around as we had won the title. I remember sitting with my dad and watching the catch against Mizery in 97 and freaking out with him.
Those moments defined my life long following of all things Nebraska. I know we never lost more than 3 games a year during TOs HC career. I know that our recruiting the last several years reminds me of Solich.
Using ones age to define life experiences etc to judge and educate them on the kind of Husker fan they are is silly.
