Bo is old school. That is his main problem. Old school on TV does not fly well with todays parents. Most have never yelled at their kids let alone smack them on the butt. Child abuse. I am nearly 66 years old, got my butt beat on a regular basis, and deserved I am sure. My son is 43 and has bottom spanked when needed. Todays world is different. I think that is the reason we have so many problems with kids. Lower high school graduation rates, young teen pregnancies rising.
Charlie Bryant was my high school football coach, starting left guard for Nebraska many years ago. Swung a mean paddle, which I caught several times in high school.
I have no problem with Bo's actions or how he disciplines kids, just where he does it.
I would hate to think if some of these kids actually attended Marine Corps boot camp in the 60's and before. You got the crap knocked out of you when you screwed up. Maybe not always the drill instructor, but the platoon took care of problem children.
Was this guy over the top. I am sure he was for todays culture, but not a lot different than Bobby Knight, and a Mr. Devaney at times I heard. Hard nosed, get your attention never hurt anyone. Some times a TimeOUt is not enough.
Overall we are a softer culture. Less physical. I have not watched the video. Really not interested. Have had much worse done to me I am sure. And I made it through. These kids call themselves warriors, not so much in reality.
Old school is gone, and today's coaches need to understand that to fit in. We have one, but he is a smart man and is learning when, how and where to make corrections. Sign of a good coach.
