White People

This thread is not about inflaming passions or hatred. I am looking for honest, genuine responses. I know I'll probably get more than a few dumb answers, but I will accept that as long as an honest conversation takes place.

With the Travyon Martin trial approaching, it got me to thinking: Why are all black people united when it comes to events like Travyon or O.J. Simpson, but white people do not see each other as brothers, as one race?

If blacks are doing it, why aren't whites? Is it because we have been conditioned to feel ashamed to be white? Is it because of slavery? Black people write songs, saying how proud they are to be black. Rappers say it all of the time. How is a white person saying he is proud to be white racist, yet a black person doing the same isn't? Isn't that the definition of racism; treating one race differently than another?

What would this country be like if white people united as one, not only like blacks but like Latinos?

The south did that... it was called slavery.

But I think the great philosopher Louis CK sums it up best.

Why would you want to regress and create more separation simply because of physical appearance? Why can't we just take that final step and label people based on their character and values rather than their appearance? The way of thinking that you are talking about is exactly opposite of the way our culture should be moving.

Because that's exactly what black people do.

Why is it that black people can call white people crackers, honkies and white boys? Don't you think those terms are meant to be racist? Black people don't mean them as compliments. You say by creating separation we're going backward, but isn't that exactly what black people do?

If we are supposed to look beyond color, why are there the BET Awards, the NAACP Awards, the ALMA Awards, etc.? Is that looking beyond color? I don't think so.

I must have missed the part where there are award shows exclusively for white people.

Yes, exactly. That's a large part of what is holding people back from true acceptance and freedom from judgment based upon appearance. There's no reason for that in the first place, and the idea that the way to combat that is for white people to band together and do the same is pretty ludicrous... I can't believe this conversation is even happening to be honest...

hmmmm. Band of Brothers comes to mind. The whole let's band together so that wackjob Nazi doesn't rule the interworldz. I believe there was an adequate amount of togetherness exhibited there. :dunno

Some do, and the first group mentioned would be racists. Why white people don't take offense is back to Landlord's post. Chris Rock's stand up has one hell of a lot of points along this whole discussion.
