He wouldn't have been tossed, it was literally the type of play that happens in almost every game where the QB scrabbles to the sideline and the defender lays a shoulder to knock him out of bounds.

Looked close to me, but looks like he wacked the back/side of his head on the ground pretty hard after the hit and that probably caused it. His neck sort of snapped/whiplashed.

He also didn't "walk off the field" either. He lay rather still on the sideline after that hit and got put on a stretcher to go to the hospital. It was a rather serious looking injury from my vantage point.

God, Apopka's play calling annoys the hell out of me. I don't know how many times they've put themselves in horrible situations down and distance wise.

Yeah, I forgot to mention the wing-T like spinner back package they run. I don't think their lineman have it figured out yet - they just let defenders run through the holes left by the pulling lineman.

“The diagnosis is that he has a concussion and has to be under observation for 24 hours,” Apopka athletic director Fred Priest told the Orlando Sentinel. “His parents are staying here with him while the team returns home.”

Also, the video of the hit is at the bottom of the link. It initially didn't look bad, but I guess he hit his head on the ground (which must have been when the injury actually occurred). Hopefully, he is alright but takes his time getting back on the field (head injuries are most common after the first, and this is his third in a short period of time).

Love how much free, positive press the Huskers get from the two announcers during yesterday's game. They also highlight the similarities between the Nebraska and Apopka offenses. Darlington looks comfortable and confident run this style of offense.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that video, I saw the hit live. Yes, Darlington's head does whip against the ground, but he also took a good shot by the defender, when Zack decided to put his head down and take on the contact. When I saw the hit live, I thought "why the heck did he try to lower his head/shoulder against that kid".

Yea, well, I thought the initial hit with the D guy they butted heads for a split second, but others here disagreed. The ground def looks like the culprit. It's like anything, though, some people are more prone to concussions than others and ZD might be one of those guys, much to our chagrin.

I watched it live and on the angles they showed later, Darlington ducked his head and their helmets hit pretty hard, then he whiplashed and hit his head again on the ground hard again, probably why it was so bad.
