No offense to anyone, but I want it on record that I think Newby will be the better of the two backs. Like AT the more I see of him, but I think Newby is going to be special.

Disagree. Newby fits our style to the T. But AT is ahead of him in terms of blocking and picking up the blitz.

When watching Newby's film, you'll see he is very reliant on his athletic ability whereas AT isn't so much.

I expect to see both of them.
In regards to the bolded - doesn't that it make more impressive that Newby is getting more love than AT at this point?

I think it says a lot that the guy who is more reliant on his athleticism and was supposed to struggle adjusting to the speed, has had less problems adjusting than the guy who was seen as a guy with college running style and body ready to go. I'd love to see both, but I don't think it was an accident that Newby was the first person mentioned, and I think if one of them was going to be a top NFL pick, it would be AT. Newby has that De'Anthony Thomas, Lache Seastrunk speed and vision.

Join the bandwagon :-) I've been on record from day 1 saying that Newby is going to be a great one for us and that he has the ability to take a serious amount of carries from Ameer.

That said, I think Adam Taylor is a better NFL prospect in the long run.

I have always been a Newby guy myself, but you're right when you say Taylor's game is more easily translated to the college field than Newby because Newby could run around everyone in HS and now he can't do that all the time. With that said, I have been hearing it's more and more likely they are trying to redshirt Adam Taylor. It's not a 100% done deal, but that is the direction they seem to be going currently. Has anyone else heard similar things, as I am definitely not connected as well as others?

Not a single play at the college level and he's going to the NFL...I love it when people count chickens before they're hatched.
It's part of being a fan.

Well, it does say prospect.

What I've always said about Newby was he is Taylor Martinez in running back form. I stand by that as well and in our no-huddle fast tempo type offensive game, it would be stupid not to have Newby on the field.

However, in a game we have to slow it down, eat some clock, and grind it out on the ground. I want AT on the field. I feel he would be better at doing what AA was asked to do in the Penn St game than Newby.

This is why I think over the long run AT will be amazing but Cross is going to be our #2 guy this year and will take carries from AA. I want AT to redshirt so he gets a shot for as many carries as possible during his career here. I don't want it wasted on him adjusting to certain parts of the game and not getting max carries possible. So I still believe he should RS while Cross stays #2 (Rightfully so IMO) but prolly won't and won't get enough carries to justify a year of eligibility lost.

I agree, Adam Taylor will go on to be a STUD here. But his style takes more time to adjust compared to Newby's. Newby brings something to the table that no other RB does from us, imo, a home run threat from anywhere on the field. I would guess, and be pretty confident, that Newby is our faster RB. That coupled with the fact Newby is in the mix on the return game I think gives him the edge. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing Taylor RS and us be VERY picky in recruiting a RB this year. We would have Ameer SR, Cross, JR, Newby SOPH, Taylor RSFR....that is plenty of talent IMO.
Complete opposite of this board's consensus 6 weeks ago when arguing w/ devnet about I. Cross (which he may end being correct about).

I wasn't part of that arguing, actually didn't even read most of it. I will admit when signed I thought Taylor was more "ready", but I really believe it's the home run factor Newby brings that will separate him THIS year.

The argument (I was part of it as well) was that the home run factor Newby brings this year isn't necessarily needed. We've got more skill position players on this O than we know what to do with. But a good blocking back like AT for passing downs would likely get him on the field quicker than Newby. I'm surprised AT hasn't gotten more looks because of that. While Newby may be the more dynamic back, AT just fits a hole we have better. Better compliment to Adbullah IMO. Then again, maybe Cross is filling that hole better than some of us expected, which I certainly wouldn't complain about...other than devnet's season long lovefest.

Ah, gotcha. I actually have said for a while now that we do not have a true home run threat at RB, Ameer is great but doesn't have that elite top end speed it appears Newby might.

I love the reading comprehension of some people around here... I just love it when people can't read worth a crap and get their panties in a bunch.

BTW just to help...some of you and your lack of reading skills... The keyword was PROSPECT.
