I think we're all in agreement it was flat. Vanilla. Generic. Truthfully, pathetic.

Yes. That is exactly what I'm saying, and I will stand by what I saw. Before he caught the pass, before the ball was snapped, he was not happy about the play call.I think we're all in agreement it was flat. Vanilla. Generic. Truthfully, pathetic.
What I'm wondering is if anyone else noticed what I noticed from the stands. Not sure if it's visible on TV, so someone will have to check their DVR. Multiple times in the 2nd half, I saw players coming out of the huddle shaking their heads. They were not at all happy with what was being called in by Beck, which is more than understandable. The most memorable for me is Enunwa's lob to the back corner- right before that play, he came out of the huddle pissed. Looked at the sideline, looked up at the box, shaking his head, saying something, and then walking all the way up to the line of scrimmage. Like I said, this wasn't the only time I watched players come out of the huddle upset. Anyone else see this too??
So...let me get this straight. He was pissed that a play was called where he caught a TD pass?
While you're not wrong here, I hope we can all agree that the play calling in this game was pretty sh#tty at times. I really like Tim Beck, but Saturday was not a great highlight in his career as OC.Some are mad that we didn't run it enough and others are mad that it was too conservative. Some want more screens but others got mad when he ran the swing screen. People get butt hurt no matter what plays Beck calls.
How was that getting cute? They started loading the box and we tried a quick slant route and had some miscommunication so it didn't work out. It isn't like we tried a halfback pass or something we don't do all the time. It's fine to keep it vanilla for the first game or 2. Not necessarily to keep secrets from future opponents(which is a good reason) but to get the offense all on the same page going against an actual opponent instead of your teammates in practice. Get a rhythm started for games 1 and 2 and then start to open it up from there.
The one issue I had with Beck is getting too cute where Martinez threw the INT. That late in the game, you pound the rock. I would be willing to be that there are very few HC's or OC's in any division of HS, college, or the NFL that would have looked at that scenario and thought that was the right play to be called.
Beck does this too many times for my liking.
